Surprise! We will be back at the Riverwest Farmers Market tomorrow, 9/27, from 10-2 on 2700 N. Pierce St! The warm September has kept our garden going and we have lots more salsa to sell.

We will be also coming to a couple markets in October, standby for those dates!

Since 2021 our billing manager, Collin La Fleur, has ran the Riverwest-based non-profit Goodest Girl Salsa Co. As a "pass-through" charity, they sell locally made salsa to raise money for other Milwaukee based non-profits. So far, GGSC has been able to donate over $3,800 to organizations like Pathfinders, MADACC, We Got This, and others over the years.

This last weekend, GGSC did their first active charitable event! Partnering with We Got This Milwaukee, Collin taught a group of kids at their 9th & Ring garden how to make pico de gallo using tomatoes from their garden they harvested that morning. The kids learned some knife handling skills, got to make their own personal mix of salsa to bring home, and also got a bag of chips!

We are proud to have staff that are active members in their communities. If you would like to help either of these organizations, you can buy Goodest Girl Salsa at the Riverwest Farmers Market, or donate to We Got This via their page.

After tallying the votes across all platforms, digital and meatspace, we have a winner!

By a surprising 2 to 1 margin, the people have demanded convenient wide mouth lids for the snack sized salsa jars! No longer will you be forced to dirty a bowl to get your snack on. We'll be grabbing those for our next batch!

We raised $192.50 at our first Farmers Market of the Season, almost selling out!

We'll have to get right back to work making a lot more for next week! And don't forget, if you bring back your clean jars, you can get a $1 off coupon for our salsa! (You can also get the coupons from donating extra tomatoes from your garden!)

We had a great time, and the kids did, too! The kids learned some knife handling skills, the basics of making a simple pico, and got to experience the interconnectedness of community. Goodest Girl Salsa Co. has been donating to We Got This Milwaukee for several years, and using tomatoes they grew from their garden with me to make their own salsa showed how community feeds back on each other.

For years we have been just a pass-through charity, a nonprofit that raises money for other nonprofits that “do the work”. This was our first event out in the community doing active charitable work, and we look forward to having more opportunities in the future!

And a big thank you to our Riverwest neighbors who donated $75 and 7 bags of tortilla chips to make this event possible! With that generous donation we were able to get some fun healthy things like avocado and mango for the kids to add to their personal pico de gallo. Every kid in the demo got to go home with about a pint of fresh salsa and a bag of chips!

You can still make an impact, too! We will be selling our salsa at the Riverwest Farmers Market this Sunday, and We Got This Milwaukee is accepting school supplies for their giveaway next week!
