πŸ‘‹ Get to know Grace! 🐢

Our Administrative Assistant and Receptionist, Avie, brings in her support dog in training, Grace, to our Emergency Shelter from time to time to interact with our clients and brighten their days. β˜€οΈ

While Grace has only visited our Shelter a handful of times, she's already made a positive impact on the women and families we serve. Grace's calming presence, soft fur, and gentle nature go a long way in helping both our clients and staff feel happy and peaceful. She is often able to intuit those who need her the most and will spend extra time comforting them. πŸ’œπŸ€—

Everyone who comes across Grace remarks how special she is and people note that just spending a few moments with her can turn their whole day around. We're so thankful to have Avie and Grace as part of our Cathedral Center family! πŸ’«πŸ•

πŸ‚ We’re putting out positive energy this fall season! πŸ‚

Our Emergency Shelter is decorated for the fall season with festive decor and positivity pumpkins, reminding us that good vibes are possible on even the hardest days. πŸŽƒ

We also want to thank Milwaukee Area Technical College for recently having us at their inaugural United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County Community Impact Fair! It was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate Cathedral Center's work and impact across Milwaukee. We also gave the attendees a chance to decorate our positivity pumpkins and spread hope and kindness to the women and families we serve. πŸ’«

We wish all our clients, staff, volunteers, and supporters a very happy fall season and lots of good energy! 🍁✨

🌟 We want to extend a big THANK YOU to these incredible volunteers from Crossroads Presbyterian Church Faith in Action! 🌟

This past weekend, this amazing group of volunteers dedicated their time and energy to helping staff spruce up some areas at our Friendship House location. They helped organize the garages by sorting their contents and collecting any garbage for disposal. They also cleaned up the courtyard, ensuring the area is able to be enjoyed by the women and families we serve. πŸ’«

We deeply appreciate their outstanding efforts in helping us provide a clean and welcoming environment for our guests. All the work our volunteers do provides significant support to our staff and creates lasting impacts in the lives of those we serve. πŸ™Œ

Thanks again to these Crossroads Faith in Action volunteers! πŸ‘πŸ§‘

Thank you to MGIC for this generous donation of crucial items! πŸ™Œ

Last week, we received over 100 pairs of socks and underwear that were collected via the β€œLaundry Load-Up” supply drive MGIC held for their community partners. 🧦 These items not only help us meet the basic needs of the women and families we serve, but they also restore dignity, provide comfort, and bring peace of mind.

Every donation we receive makes an immediate impact in the lives of individuals who are working hard to become the best versions of themselves. 🌟

Thank you to MGIC and all our supporters who walk alongside us in our work. Your care truly makes a difference! 🀝

πŸ—“οΈ October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month πŸ’œ

Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness, with 57% of women experiencing homelessness attributing domestic violence as the primary reason for their housing instability, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. When looking at women with children who are experiencing homelessness, 80% are domestic violence survivors.

Survivors encounter increased barriers to achieving safe and stable housing as they often face financial instability and gaps in employment. At Cathedral Center, we walk alongside survivors and help them regain independence, restore hope, and achieve stability.

πŸ“£ Today is World Homeless Day

On any given night in Milwaukee, nearly 1,000 individuals are experiencing homelessness. During the 2025 Milwaukee Point-in-Time Count, 318 women and 247 adults & children in families were identified as homeless.

Homelessness continues to rise due to a lack of affordable housing, a rising cost of living, low pay, mental health challenges, inadequate healthcare access, and systemic barriers.

At Cathedral Center, we remain committed to offering safe environments that promote healing, ensuring access to basic needs and critical resources, providing flexible emergency housing, and supplying our community with preventive resources. 🏑
