CALLING ALL NURSES AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS? SWEETIE PIE HAS BEEN WAITING TOO LONG FOR A FOSTER HOME OF HER OWN THAT MATCHES HER NEEDS - MAYBE ITS WITH YOU? OR MAYBE YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS HER MATCH! SHARE AND FIND OUT!

We don't get it. Sweetie Pie has been waiting for a regular foster mom and/or dad since April 9th - 2025! Is our community in general afraid of animals with special needs and/or considerations? Its a fact, people are afraid of things, and other beings, they don't understand. Which maybe explains why over the past 14 years, a large proportion of our fosters (and so many of our fosters adopt, so the same can be said for our adopter percentage) have worked in healthcare fields - tons of nurses, speech therapists, those that work in the dental field, etc - because they devote their life to running towards those beings who have differeces. It's the reason I created a special needs and considerations rescue - because my background is in human medicine and to those of us that have worked in healthcare, we see everyday that its our differences that make us beautiful, unique, interesting, and inspiring! Everyone that is the same are kind of boring! But the difference between the plight of people and animals who are shy, scared, ill, aged, differently-abled, have extra medical needs, or need extra resources is that people with these things, especially in this day and age, are uplifted and celebrated and given all the time in the world to heal and reach their potential. But animals with these things, they continue to be killed in the greatest numbers in many rescues and all the kill shelters. Not here - that's why we ARE here - to embrace and adore these animals for exactly who they are and give them the right to life that they deserve. They give us so much more than we could ever give them.

So our healthcare heroes, they get the animals we serve. They are typically not on social media (they're not the drama type and social media is full of that) but find us sometimes through our flyers, or through friends that are on social media that tell them about our animals in need. Or sometimes just organically coming across our website and seeing we are a special needs and considerations rescue and those are the animals we help and they want to, too (you know you're a healthcare worker if when looking at animals you specifically are searching for some sort of special need or consideration in their bio - shy, scared, older, 3 legs, half an ear, or blind - and you keep swiping until you find one and THOSE are the bios you read)!

We need your help reaching our community medical providers! Maybe they don't have what Sweetie Pie needs themselves, but all their coworkers typically have the same big hearts they do, and maybe one of them does have what she's been searching so long for! If you are, or know a healthcare worker, please tell them about Sweetie Pie and her plight that we will detail below. We also have a flyer we prepared for Sweetie Pie (and another for Meg) that we can send them the file to to print and put in their clinic or unit break room - we have a foster/adopter who is a nurse who put our Sweetie Pie/Meg flyers in the breakrooms of all 3 ICU units she works on, and another that put them in her GI clinic breakroom. But there are SO MANY MORE healthcare offices than what our 2 MPA family members just mentioned reached. There's some sort of clinic on every street in this community. So who do you know that is a nurse, or a physical therapist, or even...an optician or opthalmologist (or works in such an office) - Sweetie Pie is blind, so no one would get her better than one of those professionals! Help us network this sweet baby - she deserves the best human ever, and so many of our caring professionals fit that description (no, her person doesn't have to work in healthcare - but so many of our tribe do - and because she has waited so long, lets tap into the population of people who love the type of animals we serve). A little about Sweetie Pie she is about 8.5 years old and completely blind. She does not have eyes at all - she was born this way and has never known anything different (so don't cry for her, Argentina! Help her find the person who loves that about her and is so in awe of how amazing she is!). Her name is incredibly apropos - we named her before we even met her - and there is really no sweeter kitty than she is! Her favorite thing in the world is just being with her person - and cuddling with them! She loves to be held, sit on your lap, sleep with you, and just spend time with you! She will follow you around (yes, even though she is blind. She uses all her other senses to do the same things a sighted cat does)! Because she loves attention, she loves when you play with her toys with her, rolling her ball and spring toys to her, but she will also play with them and chase them by herself when you're not around (we have her on camera doing it!). She also loves to sit in a sunny window and listen to the birds and crickets chirping and smell the fresh breeze coming through the screen - those sounds and smells are how she sees the world! Sweetie Pie is a long-haired cat but loves to be brushed with her glove brush - she must know it helps her look extra gorgeous.

Sweetie Pie has been in a temporary foster home for so long after the foster we lined up for her to rescue her backed out on her hours before we needed to get her. She is not a fit for the whole home she is temp-fostered in and really needs a home that does match her wants and needs so she can have full access to the whole home, and her person all the time they are home. Because she lives for affection, we really need to get her the right foster home for her (and again, most of our fosters adopt! We always give adoption priority to the people who step up for our animals during their time of need for a foster). Even though her temp foster mom tries to spend as much time as she can with Sweetie Pie each day, its hard when she's in a room by herself. So please, help us find her person, or maybe we hit the jackpot and her person is reading this right now!

Sweetie Pie is in need of a tranquil, quiet, and calm adult-only foster home with an individual or couple who describe themselves as the same and are also established in their life and residence to give Sweetie Pie the consistency and predictability a blind cat needs to thrive. Sweetie Pie is sensitive to sound (she relies so heavily on her hearing!) and she deserves to have all the sounds that bring her fulfillment and joy and none that overwhelm or irritate her, so we're looking for a home for her in a quiet residential area so she can enjoy her daily birds and the peace that comes with such a neighborhood. A home in a busy downtown area or busy street would not be right nor would any type of complex-residence-living where people live densely on top of each other and there is a lot of unpredictablility of noise. There should be no dogs in her home, and ideally, no other animals at all. She really has one focus - her human(s) - and her being the only means she gets all the attention for herself (and she so deserves it). But we will consider a home with an "old-man-cat" - mid-to-late teens who is disinterested, keeps to himself, or at most, would want to cuddle and nap with our Sweetie Pie - we just need to ensure her safety and that if there is a cat in the home, that they would for certain be gentle, or indifferent with/to her. And like all of our foster homes, Sweetie Pie's must be located in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, or Waukesha counties.

We're way, way, WAY behind on our bills because we've been prioritizing foster pleas over fundraising posts so we could really use your support today. We would need just 80, $5 donors to pay off Baba's vet bill completely, or, our 14th birthday celebration is still going on through the end of the month and we would need just 28, $14 donations to completely take care of this bill (all donations $14 or more will be added to our "Birthday Club" supporter list!). Baba is a very special girl to me because she is one of the kitties I was an outdoor caretaker for. She's my Meg. After I had worked with her outdoors and befriended her and earned her trust, just like Meg's caretaker has done with her, we put out a plea for a foster for her, just like the one we're seeking for Meg - quiet, adult-only, no dogs, and no other animals or a young male cat. It "only" took a month and a half for a foster to come forward for her - it felt like an eternity, but by comparison, it was short-order. Meg is still waiting for someone who has the same to come forward to foster her after 8 months. As you can see, fostering the undersocialized ones changes their lives.

Our under-socialized ones typically do better than our other kitties at the vet (surprisingly because a vet clinic is extra foreign to them, or not surprisingly because our undersocialized ones are more in touch with their natural instincts and in the wild, when scared, they stay silent and quiet) and Baba was no exception - she did so good! Though Dr. Gordon did say right after this photo was taken, "you have some sharp nails, kitty!" because if you can see to the left of his knee, she has her claws dug into his leg, holding on for dear life!

The most important thing you can do at the vet is yearly physical exams (or bi-annual for seniors) and bloodwork for monitoring. Thank you to all who help us provide that to Baba and our others with your donations!

CONTINUE TO SHARE. MEG STILL WAITS FOR HER FOSTER HERO.

We're alternating plea days, and today is Meg's turn. She's still waiting after 247 days for someone who has what she needs to change her life by fostering her. And same as with Sweetie Pie, we DO NOT have any foster applications for her that are a match for her to succeed. If we did, she would be in that home. We want to be working with animals that need us - not pleading for the same need over and over. Trust us. We are praying every day for the fosters Meg and Sweetie Pie need (not just "anyone". "Anyone" does not work for the population of animals we serve)

We are the only local rescue that saves undersocialized cats and puts them into homes that match their needs where they flourish as members of a household - not in homes that aren't a match for them where they spend their lives hiding under furniture or in a closet. So many people have what Meg needs - we just need to find one that does that also won't look away from her plight - that has a soft spot for the ones that need extra time, patience, and understanding - because they know the transformation of that precious life when they give them those things is beautiful.

We would presume if someone had what she needed and has seen one of her pleas for a foster home over the past 247 days, they would have done the human thing and applied to foster her. Since no one has, we need to keep searching, and casting our net wider to reach people we haven't before (someone that has what she needs and turns away and can't be bothered to help is not someone we want in our tribe anyways. God's protection). That's where YOU come in. The number of people sharing these needs increases who sees them - reaching more, and different people. Brady & Minka were the perfect example of that - they got a lot of attention - and lots of shares, so they got their foster in (for us) record time of 3 weeks. Meg has been waiting 8+ months. She's just as important.

We ask you every time we post these needs for our animals to please share them, and so few of you do - which is why this, and other needs, are still outstanding. It doesn't matter if your home is not a match, or if you live somewhere outside of our fostering area - what matters is that you help in whatever way you can when you see an animal in need, and everyone can by simply pressing the button. Every share, every interaction increases visibility of these needs. And you never know who your friends know (and who they know, know) that could be exactly the person that Meg has been waiting so long for. Moral of the story? Please just share.

For those who don't know Meg's story (because we hope this finds many people who don't know it yet, and among them, someone that will help her by fostering her):

Meg is the undersocialized mom of 2 undersocialized kitties we rescued named Nani and Lilo. They were kittens at the time, and we had just one application that matched their needs (and they are with that family), but we thought someone would quickly follow suit and apply to foster Meg - but no one ever did. We don't know if the kittens need received more attention and we found placement for her kittens relatively fast because they were kittens (but they were older - one of them, Nani, was bigger than Meg at the time we rescued them - Meg is a little one) but we aren't that rescue who people only are here to help our animals when they are kittens or are "pretty" looking like our Siameses - and people who are only into that are not our people. We are here to help those who need us most - who would be killed by other rescues and the big local kill shelters (SE WI is NOT No Kill - but we are and with more of your support, we can make this community No Kill) - no matter what they look like, no matter their age, no matter their needs, no matter their abilities. Meg is so cute and people love tuxedos. We don't know why that alone hasn't drawn the person she needs to her. But here she is, still waiting.

For our undersocialized ones to blossom and reach their highest potential, they need a certain type of home, with a certain type of person who loves the "undercat" and wants to play a pivotal role in changing the life of an animal. For Meg specifically, she is looking for a quiet, calm, peaceful adult-only home with an individual or couple who describe themselves as they do their home. There should be no dogs in the home. There could be a cat however! But a properly paired cat is important. The right kitty-kitty match can really help us socialize the undersocialized ones, helping our kitty build confidence - while bringing them joy, companionship, and a playmate in the process. Meg, being a young gal of 2 years old, would be looking for a young, MALE, resident kitty friend that is playful, curious, outgoing, and welcoming (or 2 such boy cats) but no girl cats. She could also do well as the only animal in the home with the right person.

We'll teach you how to help Meg become brave and confident - you arent on your own here. We work together to help our animals.

SHARE THIS NEED OR BETTER YET, IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE SWEETIE PIE HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR, TAG THEM OR TALK TO THEM DIRECTLY ABOUT THIS PRECIOUS PEANUT - WHEN SWEETIE PIE'S PLIGHT REACHES THE RIGHT PERSON, THEY WILL INSTANTLY KNOW WHAT A TREASURE SHE IS!

There is a match for every animal on the planet. Sometimes it takes a long time to find, but good things come to those who wait. We have never compromised the needs, or wants, of our animals - and aren't about to start. Every animal relies on a human to find them that fit, but with our animals, because they are special needs and considerations, extra care in getting it right for them must be taken for them to live their best lives, and reach their highest potential. This should be obvious, but if we had a foster application that matched what Sweetie Pie needed and wanted, she would be in the home with that person or couple. When we wait, just like we did for Brady & Minka, our animals flourish. Every animal deserves that. We make sure they get it.

Our posts are comprehensive because we hope they are reaching people that have never seen our animal's pleas before and are learning their story for the first time (because if they already did, we would assume someone who had what they needed would have recognized what a gem a kitty is and would have applied for them already!). We know and LOVE our animals and have more to say about them and their needs, likes, and wants than the canned one sentence descriptors most rescues/shelters use like "will be a great sidekick!" Our tribe loves learning everything they can about these unique and individual beings - they want more info, not less. No one is bending your arm forcing you to read our posts. If you have already read one and have determined you aren't a match, then just press share without reading it again to get this need in front of someone who doesn't know Sweetie Pie's story yet. If there is new information, we will usually put it in the first paragraph to encourage you to read on, otherwise the need is the same, it just remains unfulfilled. We could fill these needs faster, if more people would take 1 second to share. We spent an enormous amount on boosting Minka and Brady's plea the past few weeks so our funds are in the red, so if you want to make a donation to allow us to boost Sweetie Pie's and reach more people with it, that would help!

Speaking of Brady & Minka, we rescued Sweetie Pie from the same hoarder house they were in. But Sweetie Pie's foster backed out HOURS before we needed to rescue the cats from that house. She has been with a temporary foster in just a room of her house as the whole house is not a match for her, much to our surprise because again, we should have had a dozen foster applications (that have what she needs - that's key) for her, but we repeat, we don't have any. Help us change that. This little girl deserves the most incredible human our community has.

Sweetie Pie, our wonder-kitty, is about 8.5 years old and completely blind. She was born that way, and knows no different. Like all of our special animals, she will teach her special human a lot about life that only the extra special ones can teach us. She is so happy - and happiest when she is being held, sitting on your lap, sleeping with you, or otherwise cuddled (as evidenced by her purr-motor). She loves to listen to her birds and other humming and buzzing critters from her sunny window perch, while taking in the scents of summer blowing in on the breeze. Sweetie Pie's other senses make up for the one she lacks - and the way she navigates is truly awe inspiring. She uses her superior sense of hearing and proprioception to allow her to jump up and down from furniture all on her own, follow her temp-foster mom around, and play all by herself (though she loves anything with her person, so prefers when you roll her ball toys to her {she'll roll them back!} or toss her her little catnip toys to show who's boss!).

Story after story, our animals change the lives of the people who care for them (which is why most of our fosters adopt their foster animals! The bond they form is so profound - and the people that help our animals during their time of need - when they need a foster - are exactly the type of kind souls we want for our animals for always). Animal placements are a 2 way street, however - a factor that is not often considered enough with other organizations, but it is at the forefront here. Our animals needs and wants must be met, or there is no match. Here's what Sweetie Pie is looking for:

Sweetie Pie is looking for a quiet, peaceful, and calm adult-only foster home with an individual or couple who are gentle, loving, and compassionate who are established in their life and residence to give her the consistency and routine a blind animal needs to succeed. We are also looking for someone who lives in a quiet residential area. Because Sweetie Pie's hearing is so stellar, sound can enrich her life if its pleasant, or overstimulate her if its not. A home that is in a dense urban area or downtown would not be the right match. Her birds and peace are how she sees the world - its important for her, and important to us she gets it.

Sweetie Pie we believe would prefer to be the only animal in the home - she has one prime interest - the company of her person - and as an only, she gets all the attention and affection for herself. Definitely no dogs. But we may consider a home with an "old-man-cat" (later teens) who is as mellow-as-can-be who would be disinterested in her or at most, an occasional napping partner.

Hey friends! We typically don't do a "Wishlist Wednesday" fundraiser like most rescues do - we usually don't need many "things" - our fosters are great stewards of the supplies we give them, and we buy or make fresh raw foods for our animals (so we don't have food on a wishlist) and litter comes just a mess (spilled open, cracked jugs) when its ordered online - so its more efficient to buy that locally, too, but we do have one in-kind donation we could use help with. Woodman's gift cards!

We have switched Tiny Biscuits over to homemade raw for half of her meals (we may be switching all of her meals to homemade - we're talking to a holistic vet next week so will find out then our plan), but we're due to make her a new batch of homemade next week. We purchase the meat to make her homemade raw at Woodman's. We make 4 lbs at a time and each 2lb package is $15 (so next week's batch will cost $30).

Woodman's only takes cash (which we never have any of that lying around - we don't even have enough donations to cover our vet bills and other expenses) or Discover card (Discover doesn't have a business credit card - we asked - we just have a Visa which Woodman's doesn't take). So gift cards to help us buy the meat to make her food would be very helpful and a great way to partake in Tiny Biscuits' healing journey for anyone who wants to donate.

We are transitioning more fosters over to homemade raw, and we constantly have to make more raw food for our animals currently eating it so we have a continual need for these gift cards. Today is a very special day. It's the day our most special kitty ever turns 11 years old! Tiny Biscuits is one of our Lifetime Care kitties because she has very special needs. Tiny Biscuits has hydrocephalus (or you may have heard it referred to as "water on the brain") where there is excess cerebral spinal fluid in her skull. She also has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Neurologically, she has some slight differences - she doesn't use a litter box (but our smart girl has learned how to use potty pads!), she moves a little slower (we call her our "sloth"), and sometimes she's just slightly incoordinated (but to the untrained eye, you would never know). Her favorite thing in the world is being held and cuddled by her mom.

Year 10 for her wasn't the best - she was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma late April - but we have been implementing a host of healing treatments for her, and are researching more every day - there is so much the body can do to heal itself when given what it needs!

We have been procuring lots of things to care for her - we have transitioned half her diet to homemade raw (the other half is still commercial raw) so have bought tons of little jars and more balancer to prepare that. Tiny Biscuits is taking a very special tea that we renamed for her "Tiny Tea" that we brew a new batch of every few weeks. We are using some medicinal mushrooms and other supportive plant and animal "medicines" and are excited about some new ones we are hopefully going to be incorporating over the next few weeks - Tiny Biscuits has a telehealth consult with a famous holistic veterinarian in another state next week!

243 DAYS OF PLEADING AND STILL NO FOSTER APPLICATIONS FOR MEG! HELP HER FIND HER HERO, AND HER HOME. SHARE THIS!

It's difficult when the only time we can get fosters is when we're racing a deadline. You have no idea how hard it is on our people when that happens, but its harder on the animals in need. There are SO MANY animals that have special needs and or considerations that will be killed at the big local kill shelters that need us to save them - but we can't help any more until we find the quiet foster placements that both Meg and Sweetie Pie need - and we have nothing for either of them. We were very hopeful that we were turning a new leaf with the plea for Brady & Minka because their need got quite a bit of visibility just organically, but we're back to crickets. Every day is a deadline for Meg - she's out in the world and anything could happen to her, any minute.

We are going to alternate days pleading for Meg and Sweetie Pie - until they both have the homes they need. How fast we do is a barometer of how much the SE WI community cares about its most vulnerable. We have so many supporters from other states - and even other countries. The world is watching, SE WI. We can't become a No Kill community until the ones who are shy, scared, undersocialized, injured, aged, have medical needs, are differently-abled, or need extra resources have a right to life like any other animal. Meg is an under-socialized little lady of about 2 years old. We have many new followers over the past few months - welcome! We hope you will go from just following and watching what we do here, to helping us do it as a supporter in our work! Let us tell you about such an opportunity every week for you to do just that - Giving Sunday!

Gen Z, you may have missed out on a really great time in life (and if you are any generations older, you probably remember) - when Sundays were about GIVING. It wasn't about Sunday Funday, brunch, or hitting up the discount stores. It was about going to church in the morning, dinner around the table with family, and giving to those that needed help. It brought peace and fulfillment to the week. It's almost non-existent as society looks inward ("me" culture) but we want to bring it back because its so needed - for those in need, but for everyone really - its good for everyone's soul. What a way to do so than by helping animals - they're so easy to do right by.

We aren't asking you to forego your mimosas at your favorite restaurant today, just to weave some giving into the hecticness of a day that is really meant for rest and to be slow and easy.

We were so laser-focused on getting these two their new foster home over the past month that we skipped a few giving Sundays, but our expenses increased as we had not only our usual food/litter/supplies, but also as we had to replace a bunch of Brady & Minka's items that were missing or worse for wear, and also as we are building a holistic protocol for Tiny Biscuits who was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma.

Any amount you can spare makes a difference - its a lot of people giving how they can which has allowed us to serve these animals to the high level we do for the past 14 years! But because we are also in the midst of our 14 year Birthday Celebration, please consider a $14 donation (at the end of our birthday fundraiser we share a list of names who joined our "Birthday Club," donating, this year, $14 or more).

We, and all of our animals, thank you in advance. Brady & Minka are showing you a spot they like in their new foster home. They have been in their new foster home for a week today, and we are slowly working on introducing them to the full home in a limited area so they can get used to it at a pace they feel comfortable and confident in, but they seek comfort and safety in the room they started out in (this one) and will retreat back to it when they have done enough "exploring". It has all their favorite things - beds, blankets, a cat tree we got them, but also this one their foster parents had.
