MOM's Line ~
Welfare Warriors MOMS Line, begun in 1990, teaches self-advocacy and organizing skills to

about 800 moms a year. Mothers and Youth (MAY) Project~
The Welfare Warriors' Mothers and Youth (MAY) project, begun in 1995, brings together moms and their children to work for social justice while learning and developing new skills. Mother Warriors Committee~
Welfare Warriors' Mother Warriors Committee, the organizing branch of the Welfare Warriors, works locally and across the USA to give a voice to mothers and children to stop the war on the poor and to lobby for a Government Guaranteed Child support Program. We use music, public actions, street theatre, publications, marches and more to organize for social change. Mother Warriors coordinate actions with England's Wages for Housework, LA's Global Strike Network, and the National Women's Council of Ireland to the Global Women's Strike each year on March 8 to demand recognition of women's unpaid work. Published once a year, we primarily accept articles from any mother who has ever had to depend on government benefits for her children's support or has struggled with the child welfare system. Articles must be based on experience, not theory alone, and reflect the truth in your life. We do no accept anything that will divide or weaken our community with bigotry against people of any race, size, age, gender identity, culture or sexual orientation. We want to share our knowledge and strength with each other, to validate each other, and support each other until the poverty community is strong and unified with a VOICE in all systems that affect our lives. We are angry and bored with the lies and stereotypes about moms whose children receive government child support (TANF) and moms who have been unjustly targeted for child removals. We will no longer remain silent. We will unite and fight for the lives of all mothers and children in poverty. Send submissions by mail to:

SOME OF OUR FIGHT BACK CAROLS...

Oh Billionaires
(Tune: "O Tannenbaum" / "Oh Christmas Tree")
Oh billionaires, oh 1 percent
It's time to pay your taxes
You live like kings, you kill for bling
We won't support your habits
We will boycott all your stores,
Banks, and drugs, and all your wars
Oh billionaires, oh 1 percent
It's time to pay your taxes
Oh ruling class, oh 1 percent
Why don't you pay your taxes
You scheme and play and rob each day
You prey upon the masses
We will stop you every day
We won't send a cent your way
Oh ruling class, oh 1 percent
Why don't you pay your taxes
Oh CEOs, oh 1 percent
It's time to pay your taxes
You take our jobs, you run the mobs
Your life resembles maggots
We will buy from local stores
We won't help you spend and horde
Oh CEOs, oh 1 percent
It's time to pay your taxes
Oh patriarchs, oh plutocrats
It's time you paid your dues
You smile and lie, you occupy
The minds of people, too
We will boycott all your news
A-and your mass media, too
Oh patriarchs, oh plutocrats
It's time you paid your dues
Oh billionaires, oh 1 percent
Why don't you pay your taxes
Get out of town, we won't back down
We'll occupy your assets
We won't bomb your homes and lands
Like you do to fund your scams
Oh billionaires, oh 1 percent
We just demand your taxes

(Sung to the tune of "Tavern in the Town")
Welfare Warriors Song

When Welfare Warriors come to town, come to town
There's help for the mothers who are down, who are down
They all take aim at the bureaucrats in power,
Who duck, hide, run away and cower! (Chorus)
Goodbye, guys we don't need you,
And it's too much work to feed you,
We'll move into all your offices and make rules fair! Moms with babies can stay home, can stay home,
No more daily job-search on the phone, on the phone
So get out quick before we kick your asses
We're on our way to college classes! All the deadbeats will send checks, will send checks,
Our private-eyes will find each ex, find each ex,
And the moms need dough, so do not let them wait,
Don't send support checks to the state! --Chorus

Tuition for the mothers will be free, will be fee
With day care provided for no fee, for no fee,
Moms get honor, dignity, respect--
Which family values should reflect!-- Chorus

We the people have the wealth, have the wealth
To Guarantee every child's health, every child's health
Change old laws and pass new bills
Our children need security, not pills-- Chorus

CPS Is Coming For You
(to the tune of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town)

Chorus
You better watch out
I'm telling you why
CPS wants your Children, no lie
CPS is coming for you

They see you when youΒΉre struggling
They know you stand alone
With lies and ugly bigotry
They remove your kids from home

Chorus

They take them when they're sleeping
They take them from their beds
They don't care if you're bad or good
So get that through your head

Chorus

They like to take the babies
As soon as they are born
To sell to middle-class folks who
Look down on you with scorn

Chorus

They organize a gang-bang
To guarantee their pay
The greedy cruel professionals
Take screaming kids away

You better fight back
You gotta stay strong
A trial will prove their stories are wrong
Stop CPS from coming for you

Rest in Power Welfare Warrior Lucille Berrien. Lucille was a long-term member of Welfare Warriors and a legendary welfare rights activist. She fostered over 120 children and never missed a chance to speak up about the lack of support for low-income caregivers. She was a member of the Black Panther Party and ran for mayor in 1972. πŸ™πŸΏβœŠπŸΏ

We are honored to welcome Welfare Warriors to the 2026 MKE Pride Market: Love All Around! ✨

is a Milwaukee-based, 100% volunteer organization made up of low-income mothers, caregivers, and allies working together to support families navigating poverty, public benefits, family court challenges, and mental health barriers.

Their work includes:
πŸ’œ Helping individuals apply for public benefits
πŸ’œ Supporting caregivers at risk of family separation
πŸ’œ Advocating for families experiencing poverty
πŸ’œ Publishing the trans-inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming activist magazine The Mother Warriors Voice β€” distributed FREE in Milwaukee and beyond

Organizations like Welfare Warriors remind us that Pride is not only celebration β€” it is community care, advocacy, support, and making sure people know they are not alone.

We are deeply grateful to have them join this year’s family-friendly celebration and community gathering.

It is our 40th anniversary! Unfortunately, this past budget year our expenses were higher than our donations. So, anything you can send in will help us make up for this shortfall. All donations are tax deductible. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-repair-the-mothers-organizing-center

The good news is we are planning a celebration at the Mothers Organizing Center on Saturday August 1st. Please mark your calendars now. We hope you can join us! In the meantime, we will continue our important work.

One dad we helped was able to get low-income housing in Fond du lac, Wisconsin. Due to his daughter's autism and their housing insecurity, CPS targeted them for family separation. It is tremendously difficult for families to get low-income housing in Milwaukee, so we help many families apply in other communities.

Please make a gift if you are able so we can help even more caregivers. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-repair-the-mothers-organizing-center

One disabled mom had her kids taken away because her children had lice and CPS workers felt that her apartment was dirty. Her partner had recently died so she had no help. We organized people to clean up and bought her lice shampoo. These are things CPS workers could have easily done but they make more money when children are taken from their parents. A donation to Welfare Warriors can help pay for simple things, like lice shampoo and cleaning supplies, so families can quickly be reunited. The faster a family can be reunified, the less trauma they will face.

In addition to helping mamas get immediate help in emergency cases, Welfare Warriors volunteers have been helping distribute fresh food. Most recently, a large amount of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and chocolate milk were left at a local shelter. Welfare Warriors members delivered the extra to 12 different families, people with disabilities and immigrants.

We have been doing a lot of outreach to the community this year to help spread the word to those who need our help. Besides distributing the Mother Warriors Voice and flyering in Children's Court in between hearings, we have been tabling at many Milwaukee and Madison events.

Our next tabling will be at the MKE pride Market on June 13th from noon to 6pm located at Alice's Garden Urban Farm 2136 N. 21st Street. Then we will be at the Milwaukee's Juneteenth Celebration on Dr. King Drive on June 19th. If you are in town, please stop by our table. If not, please consider sending a gift by clicking the link. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-repair-the-mothers-organizing-center

We also have been continuing to meet with politicians friendly to our cause. Most recently we met with Congresswoman Gwen S. Moore to discuss her Worker Credit and Reform Act, which would expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and help low-income caregivers.

The post office has now officially told us that we can no longer mail the Mother Warriors Voice using book rate, even though we have done so for years. This means mailing the Voice will take more out of our budget. The wars on the poor never cease. Any donation given will help make up for this added cost. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-repair-the-mothers-organizing-center

This past issue covered some great resistance actions being organized by mamas around the world. The Michigan Welfare Rights Organization had a great article about welfare rights in the time of fascism. Milwaukee4Palestine wrote about their campaign to shut down Derco Aerospace, which aids the ongoing genocide of Palestine.

We don't receive the millions that CPS agencies receive every month. We are just low-income mamas and other caregivers who want to keep families safe. We could definitely use your donation today. Your economic support keeps us going. Thank you! https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-repair-the-mothers-organizing-center

Our very own Amada Morales received the Transform Award from the Institute for Women's Leadership Marquette University for her unpaid work at Welfare Warriors and Casa Maria Catholic Worker. Amada is Director of Welfare Warriors and runs Sister Pat's house and Mapendo house for Casa Maria. These two houses take in homeless moms in the process of trying to reunite their families after child removals. Congrats Amada! 🌹🌹🌹 --Kesha
