Milwaukee County Historical Society The mission of the Milwaukee County Historical Society is to collect, interpret, and tell stories related to Milwaukee and Milwaukee County history.

In promoting a greater appreciation of Milwaukee County’s heritage, the Historical Society hopes to develop a better understanding of the issues and challenges facing Milwaukee County today. 📚 Join us for an Author Talk with Tom Jacobson!

Hear the remarkable story of Tom Jacobson, a Holocaust survivor, Milwaukee civil rights attorney, and lifelong advocate for justice, as he discusses his revised memoir, Underdog: Against All Odds: The Fight for Justice.

Born in Germany in 1938, Tom and his family fled N**i persecution aboard the MS St. Louis before eventually settling in Milwaukee. He went on to become a prominent civil rights attorney, representing advocates like Father James Groppi and Dick Gregory, arguing two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, and providing legal representation to thousands of people throughout his career.

This Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize the histories, cultures, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples, including the Native communities whose histories are deeply connected to Milwaukee.

Join us on November 18th for "Connecting Community Voices: The Indigenous Experience in Milwaukee County." Moderated by James Flores, this discussion panel will explore local Indigenous history and contemporary topics, including generational trauma, education, belonging, and societal expectations.

Designed by Chicago architects Weary & Alord and completed in 1930, the high-rise building on the corner of North Sixth Street and West Wisconsin Avenue represented a significant addition to downtown Milwaukee's skyline. Later called the Wisconsin Tower and the Mariner Tower after its builder John Mariner. The west side of the tower displays advertisements for Ford Motor Company, Calvert Distillery, and other companies.

Acompáñanos a un taller práctico de serigrafía. En colaboración con Voces de la Frontera y el artista Nicolas Lampert, conectamos la historia con la expresión artística y cultural.

El artista te guiará paso a paso en el arte de la serigrafía, y aprenderás sobre la diversa historia de la inmigración en Milwaukee. Este programa es posible, en parte, gracias al apoyo de la fundación Herzfeld.

🎨Drawing Connections: Immigrant Stories & Art Workshop
Join us for a hands-on screen-printing workshop. In partnership with Voces de la Frontera and artist, Nicolas Lampert, we are bringing together history and cultural artistic expression.

The artist will guide participants through the art of screen-printing, and participants will learn about Milwaukee’s diverse immigrant history. This program funded in part by the Herzfeld Foundation.
