The annual event celebrates love of community and food in a neighborhood atmosphere. A new charity is chosen each year to benefit from the event. Founded in 1977, The Women’s Center supports adult and child survivors of domestic
violence and sexual assault with holistic programs and services, offered at no charge to clients. Programs include short term crisis
counseling, an emergency domestic viol
ence shelter, 24-hour hotline, free on-site child care, transitional living, legal advocacy, employment and life skills, and advocacy. As they celebrate their 40th Anniversary this year, they continue to be the ONLY agency in
Waukesha County that offers these services. In 2016, the event benefited Operation Dream Milwaukee. Operation DREAM was founded in 2006 to serve boys unable to participate in organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA due to poverty
and lack of transportation. These children face the greatest challenges of anyone in our society. In Milwaukee, nearly 3 in 5 will
drop out of school before graduation. Without an education, they will be lured to criminal activity and many will face violence, incarceration, and worse. Operation Dream provides a sanctuary on Saturdays
and personalized on-call "wrap around" support for these kids to learn how to survive the temptations of the streets, how to dream of a
brighter future, and how to achieve their dreams. We offer a structured environment that supports four major initiatives: academic achievement, work training, family & community, and health & fitness. No event was held in 2015. The 2014 recipient, Repairers of the Breach, is Greater Milwaukee’s grassroots homeless outreach and provider of the area’s only daytime refuge and resource center for homeless adults. As a local non-profit they are focused on projects advocating with and for people who experience homelessness. More information can be found on their website at: http://www.repairers.org/. The 2013 inaugural recipient was the Sojourner Family Peace Center. Sojourner Family Peace Center (SFPC) is the largest nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving over 9,500 clients each year. SFPC provides an array of support aimed at helping families affected by domestic violence achieve safety, justice and well-being.
