For John Norman, platelet donation is more than an appointment. It is an opportunity to honor others, build meaningful connections and inspire more people to give.

John’s journey began more than six years ago when he donated blood at a workplace blood drive. Shortly afterward, Versiti contacted him and shared that he was a perfect candidate for platelet donation.

The experience became personal when John learned that a coworker and friend had survived childhood leukemia thanks, in part, to donated platelets.

“All of a sudden, I could put a face to the reason I donated,” John said.

Today, John has donated platelets 129 times and counting. With their permission, he shares the stories of people whose lives have been affected by platelet donation and dedicates each donation to someone special. His efforts have inspired at least 10 others to begin donating.

John’s story reminds us that people need people. One donation can create meaningful connections and inspire others to make a difference.

One invitation to give blood can inspire an entire community. ❤️

Congratulations to Mitch Eiting of Dayton, Ohio, and Hubert Stalling of Chicago, Illinois, on being named to the 2026 Fresenius Kabi USA National Blood Donation Hall of Fame!

Mitch has helped inspire more than 6,000 blood donations through workplace drives at Midmark Corporation over the past decade.

Hubert has spent more than a decade bringing Chicago neighbors and community organizations together to donate blood, including raising awareness about the needs of patients living with sickle cell disease.

Their dedication reminds us that when people invite others to give, the impact can reach far beyond a single donation.

Thank you, Mitch and Hubert, for helping make hope possible for patients and families.

A great weekend made even better by a great partnership! 🏃‍♂️❤️🩸

We were proud to join forces with Abbott during the Chicago Marathon, bringing our shared commitment to community and saving lives to one of Chicago's biggest events!

Together, we celebrated the energy of race weekend, cheered on runners and helped raise awareness about the lifesaving importance of blood donation.

A huge thank you to Abbott for being such a wonderful partner and helping us bring this mission to life. We're grateful for opportunities like these to come together and make a meaningful impact.

Nine years after blood transfusions helped save her life, Renee Hill had the opportunity to give that lifesaving gift to someone else. ❤️🩸

At age 31, Renee was diagnosed with Stage IV appendix cancer. Her treatment included chemotherapy, complex surgery and several blood transfusions that helped give her strength during the hardest days of her recovery.

Today, Renee is a team member at Versiti Blood Research Institute. When a VBRI blood drive fell on the anniversary of her lifesaving surgery, she received approval from her doctor and finally became a blood donor.

“Blood donations saved my life, and now I’m able to give that back,” Renee said.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 💗

For Versiti’s Leanne Deptula, breast cancer is deeply personal.

Leanne is a two-time breast cancer survivor, a blood transfusion recipient and a member of the Versiti team. Her own experience, along with her family’s experience with breast cancer, has shaped her life and strengthened her commitment to helping others.
