Did you know?

53rd Street School is in the middle of a Green Schools playground redevelopment program! We have spent the last year and a half working on redesigning our current playground with greener infrastructure and less asphalt. We are just beginning our fundraising phase, so be looking out for opportunities on how to make a financial contribution and to spread the word!

53rd Street School is in the 9th Cohort of Milwaukee Public Schools entering the Schoolyard Redevelopment Program, expected to be completed in 2027.

Stay safe and warm, Tigers! We will have school tomorrow, January 22nd, but will be closed Friday, January 23rd.

ALERT: Due to weather conditions, all MPS schools and sites will be closed on Friday, January 23, 2026. All district after-school, recreation, and other programs and events are canceled. High school exams scheduled for Friday will take place on Tuesday. Schools are open tomorrow, Thursday, January 22 and we look forward to seeing everyone!

Happy holidays from 53rd Street School!

We are in the middle of some festive fun this week. Today’s spirit week day is ugly sweater day, tommorow’s is holiday colors, and Friday is pajama day! We can’t wait to see everyone’s spirit!

As a reminder, there is no school for winter break December 22nd-January 2nd. We will see you back on January 5th! Stay safe and warm this winter break. ☃️🐯

It’s that time for our 8th graders to start thinking about high school! The high school enrollment application is now OPEN!

Tomorrow, October 11th is the district career fair from 9:00-12:00 at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. 8th grade students and families can come learn about high school options and apply!

We are having a fun filled week next week at 53rd Street School! Don't miss out on Spirit Week and Friday Fun!

Monday, September 15th: Number One Fan Day: wear a Jersey or the colors of your favorite sports team! 🦌 🧀

Tuesday, September 16th: Twin Day: find a friend and dress alike! 👯‍♂️

Wednesday, September 17th: Inside Out Day: wear your clothes inside out! 🌀

Thursday, September 18th: Mismatch Day: wear something that doesn’t match! 🙅🏾‍♀️🙅🏿‍♂️

Friday, September 19th: School Color Day (Blue, White and Orange!) 💙🤍🧡

Each day your students attend, they will receive a ticket to win a prize in our raffle on Friday!! Students will receive an additional ticket for each day they are dressed up for Spirit Week.

Friday we are having BINGO at 8 AM and a pep rally!

Fifty-Third Street School is a summer meal site! Feel free to stop by for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

MPS will offer meals for children 18 and younger at more than 40 sites during the summer. Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered and will vary by location. Stop by for a well-balanced breakfast including whole grains, fruit, and local milk. Lunches and dinners include an entrée, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and local milk.

School is over. The hallways are quiet now, but we had a busy spring at 53rd Street School!

In May, our 3rd-5th grade Girls on the Run team ran their celebratory 5K ✨🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️

We also had some great field trips! 4th grade went to the zoo, and 7th and 8th grade went to Potter’s Forest to spend a day at the MPS Ropes Course 🌳

We celebrated our 8th graders heading off to high school and our kindergarteners heading off to first grade this week. We are so proud of them and they all worked so hard! 👩🏾‍🎓 🧑🏽‍🎓 👨🏿‍🎓

Finally, to cap it all off, our proud principal, Mr. McEvilly, was awarded the Princi-Pal of the Year Award for the Central Region. 🍎

What a great spring to be a Tiger! 🐯
