Another Story Finished. Another Chapter Beginning!

Life has an interesting way of reconnecting people.

Years ago, our Executive Director, Mrs. Mercedez, and this soon-to-be GED graduate were childhood friends at Garfield Elementary School.

Who would've thought that all these years later, their paths would cross again at Joyce's Legacy Learning Center?

Her journey hasn't been easy, but it has certainly been worth it. Through the challenges, she kept pushing forward, and today, we couldn't be prouder of her!

On December 9th, she'll walk across the stage as a GED graduate, and that moment will mean a little something extra to our Executive Director.

Sometimes life comes full circle in the most unexpected ways.

We're saving a special piece of this story for graduation. 💜

HE FINISHED THE STORY!

ANOTHER GED GRADUATE!!!

This one right here! He spent so much time jumping around, trying to avoid what he knew he needed to finish. 😂 But one thing about us at Joyce's Legacy, we're not giving up on you just because you're having a hard time believing in yourself.

Today, he officially passed his FINAL GED test!

And when he found out? HE CRIED!

Because sometimes it's bigger than a test. It's the weight of something you've been carrying for years finally being lifted. It's realizing that the thing you've been avoiding is now behind you.

YOU DID IT. IT'S OVER. YOU'RE A GRADUATE!

December 9th is about to be something special! Another story finished. Another chapter beginning.

Congratulations, GRAD! We are so proud of you!

𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀.

Every year, Joyce’s Legacy Learning Center administers over 2,100 tests. Our test takers are GED learners writing their next chapter, plus future firefighters, police officers, and professionals working toward their careers. Many of them come to us straight from work, after picking up kids or finishing a long shift.

On 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 & 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, we make sure nobody sits down to a test on an empty stomach. We need our community to help keep the table full.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽:

Sponsor a Tuesday. Restaurants, churches, and businesses can provide an evening meal.

7½ MONTHS PREGNANT. MOM OF THREE. AND NOW A GED GRADUATE!

Y'all, THIS is why we do what we do! 🥹

She started her GED journey with us back in April, but morning sickness had other plans! She had to take a break, but one thing she didn't do was GIVE UP!

She came back, got focused, and knocked out the rest of her GED tests in LESS THAN 30 DAYS!

And guess what? She's not stopping there! This mama is headed to NAIL SCHOOL on October 21st! With Center Street Nail Technology Academy, LLC !!

But can we talk about these pictures for a minute?

It's the family member standing outside, phone in hand, waiting to capture HER moment. And here she comes, graduation cap on, arms raised, knowing she DID THAT!

That kind of love and support is EVERYTHING!

Sometimes life happens. Sometimes you have to take a break. But a break doesn't mean your story is over.

To our newest graduate, we are SO proud of you! We hope that little bundle of joy holds on until graduation, but if not, I guess we'll be celebrating TWO special arrivals!

Five GED subjects behind her. Financial literacy. Nail school ahead of her. A new baby on the way. And a whole new chapter waiting to be written.

Join Joyce’s Legacy Learning Center and Milwaukee Public Library for an afternoon of creativity, laughter, and family fun. Bring the whole crew to make handmade ornaments together, create mighty small moments, and build joyful family memories that last long after the holidays.

Every ornament your family makes will help decorate our community tree for the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival at Cathedral Square Park, so your little ones can go see their creations shining downtown!

One day, all of this is going to pay off.

The late nights. The early mornings. The exhaustion. The frustration. The struggle of studying for your GED while working, taking care of your family, and still trying to find time to take care of yourself.

We know you're tired. We know it's not easy. And we know there are days when you feel like giving up.

But keep going.

Rest when you need to. Cry if you have to. Take a moment to catch your breath. But don't give up on yourself.

One day, you'll look back at these moments and realize that every late night, every practice test, and every sacrifice was bringing you closer to the life you've been working toward.

Remember your WHY. It's what got you started, and it's what's going to help you finish.
