Riverworks MKE RDC was created to assist with the very necessary redevelopment of the east Capitol Drive corridor.

Riverworks Development Corporation (RDC) drives social and economic development by aligning residents and businesses with specialized resources that strengthen Harambee, Riverwest, and the surrounding communities. Riverworks Development Corporation (RDC) previously named the Northeast Milwaukee Industrial Development Corporation (NMIDC) was created through a partnership of public and private organizations. For many years the area had been home to many major businesses. When those businesses disinvested or relocated the area began to deteriorate. In an effort to restore economic vitality to the business and residential community, Riverworks was created. Today Riverworks is celebrating 20 years of serving local and national businesses and working to retain and attract new businesses to the area thereby ensuring that this area is economically healthy. However, an economically healthy area is an area where the residents are also economically healthy. To that end RDC created the Financial Opportunity Center with a mission to help the area's residents become financial stable through benefits, financial education, and workforce development coaching.

Share your story about your experience in Harambee/Riverwest here. We'd love to hear from you.

Here is an example: "The Harambee neighborhood is where I grew up my aunt, uncles, grandma, and granddad all lived in this neighborhood. I got my haircut went to school. I'm happy to see our neighborhood come back to life."

In partnership with Ex Fabula, we are collecting UltraShorts (US) stories in advance to inform how we shape future plans for the Kuumba Art Park on the Beerline Trail. We hope that you’ll help us out by writing one or more stories that focus on your experiences as Harambee and Riverwest neighbors....

You Belong in This Election

If voting has ever felt like something other people do, people with more time, more certainty, more of a stake in the outcome, you are not alone in feeling that way. But that feeling is separate from the truth. This election is for you, whoever you are and wherever you live.

People in your neighborhood are registering and voting right now: coworkers, neighbors, people you see at the same grocery store or bus stop. Voting is not reserved for people with a certain background, income, or amount of free time. It is open to every eligible resident, including first-time voters and anyone who has ever felt like the system wasn’t built with them in mind.

Being part of a community means being part of the decisions that shape it. Your voice belongs in that conversation as much as anyone else’s, and so does your vote.

Take a few minutes to check your registration and see what is on your ballot.

Check your voting status at mkevote.com/partner.
