Heroes for Healthcare

Heroes for Healthcare Non-profit organization that helps all Veterans find their career in healthcare after service. She knew she wanted to devote her life to helping people.

The Story Behind Heroes for Healthcare and Founder, Laura Hanoski

Laura Hanoski’s passion for healthcare and people started in middle school when she became a candy striper at a local hospital. Laura went into nursing school after high school and spent six years at Aurora St. Luke’s and six years at Sports Medicine and Knee Surgery Center. Laura was blessed to find a husband to be her partner in

life and in business. Nineteen years ago they started Premier Medical Staffing Services. Premier is an industry leading staffing firm with a national presence. Premier Medical Staffing Services proudly supports our Federal Medical institutions with staffing support as well as offer job opportunities to our military spouses through the MSEP program (Military Spouse Employment Program). While working with the Department of Defense and Veteran facilities over the past several years she discovered that having a health care job in the service does not get you a health care job in the civilian world. Licensures and certifications do not match up. While organizations want to employ these talented and skilled men and woman Laura has realized they can’t unless they are compliant, this is where the “Gap” is. So, Laura and Heroes for Healthcare is dedicated to bridging that “Gap” to support our veterans and to help them obtain gainful employment in healthcare.

Heroes for Healthcare helps veterans and military spouses transition into civilian healthcare careers through education, job placement, and financial assistance. As Wisconsin faces a growing healthcare workforce shortage, Heroes for Healthcare has helped advance legislation that allows medically trained veterans to receive credit and placement testing for their military experience, accelerating their path to civilian healthcare licensure and careers.

A special thank you to Big Sipz for sponsoring our Spin the Wheel and helping make the day a success and hitting our fundraising goal on the green!

Big news for Heroes for Healthcare & Brown County, WI!

We are incredibly excited to share that Heroes for Healthcare has been awarded a Talent Recruitment Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)!

Gov. Evers WEDC announcement --> https://wedc.org/talent-recruitment-grant-awardees/

This investment will allow us to launch a targeted, data-driven initiative to recruit 10 medically trained veterans (medics, corpsmen, and medical technicians) and 10 veteran Registered Nurses from across the country to Brown County, Wisconsin, helping strengthen our healthcare workforce while creating meaningful career pathways for those who served.

With an estimated $1.67M annual economic impact, this initiative supports both veteran families and the growing healthcare needs of our communities. Through this grant, eligible veteran households may receive customized relocation assistance of up to $7,500 to help make Wisconsin home.
This work would not be possible without incredible partners and supporters.

Special thanks to our healthcare partners, Emplify Health and Aurora Health Care, for their commitment to hiring and supporting medically trained veterans.

Thank you to UW Health for recognizing Heroes for Healthcare and helping shine a light on the impact of connecting veterans and military spouses to meaningful healthcare careers.

We’re grateful to have a hospital partner that not only believes in our mission but actively supports it.

Together, we’re strengthening Wisconsin’s healthcare workforce and creating new opportunities for those who have already served.

- 39,000+ active duty and reserve Army combat medics currently serve across the United States.

- 30,000+ active duty and reserve Navy Hospital Corpsmen are trained to provide frontline medical care through the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

- The Air Force Medical Service includes nearly 60,000 active duty, Reserve, civilian, and contract medical and support professionals.

At a time when Wisconsin could face a shortage of up to 19,000 nurses by 2040, Heroes for Healthcare is helping bridge the gap by connecting medically trained veterans and military spouses to meaningful careers in Wisconsin hospitals and clinics. Through partnerships with healthcare systems including UW Health, Froedtert Health, Advocate Aurora Health, Door County Medical Center, and Emplify Health, along with education partners such as Herzing University, Bellin College, and Madison Area Technical College, veterans earn their nursing license in as little as two years — all while working in healthcare settings through the Wis-MAC Program.

Because the GI Bill doesn’t always cover the full cost of education, Heroes for Healthcare also helps fund critical expenses such as textbooks, laptops, scrubs, stethoscopes, licensing fees, and exam preparation materials, ensuring veterans have the support they need to succeed.
