Who gets to walk on the beach? 👣 🏖 The answer may depend on where you live.

A new article from The Conversation explores the legal and policy questions surrounding public access to beaches and shorelines across the United States, including an ongoing Wisconsin case involving Paul Florsheim, professor emeritus at the UWM Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health. Florsheim's challenge to a trespassing citation could help determine whether the public has the right to walk along hundreds of miles of Wisconsin's Great Lakes shoreline.

The story examines how different states balance private property rights and public access to beaches, and why these issues matter for recreation, health, and community well-being.

🎾➡️🔬 From NCAA Division I tennis student-athlete to sport science professional, recent UWM graduate Iva Stejskalova has built an impressive path both on and off the court.

Originally from the Czech Republic, Iva came to UWM in 2020 to join the women's tennis team and study kinesiology. After graduating with honors and earning multiple academic and athletic awards, she continued her education at the UWM Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health, earning a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning.

During her graduate studies, Iva discovered a passion for sport science and found the career path she had been searching for.

"I feel like sport science is exactly what I wanted to do before I even knew it existed," she said.

Congratulations, Iva! We're proud of all you've accomplished and excited to see what comes next. 🐾💛🖤

At our Kinesiology 2026 Graduate Student Celebration this May, we kicked things up a notch with the first-ever KIN-Olympics! 💪🎓

MS and PhD tracks went head-to-head against faculty and staff in a spirited (and steep!) competition.

In the end, the research track graduate students edged out the competition to take home the trophy. 🏆

A fantastic way to celebrate our graduates—full of energy, teamwork, and plenty of fun!
