We appreciate the efforts made by the Mequon Police Department regarding this morning’s hateful incident.

All good people must stand up and speak out against hateful words and actions.

Milwaukee Jewish Federation condemns the hateful and intimidating behavior captured on video today in Mequon, directed at a member of the Jewish community.

Our Jewish community deeply values the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment, including the right to express political opinions and criticize Israeli government policies. The First Amendment protects free speech, not unlawful harassment or threats.

We have been aware of this incident and have been working closely with members of our community. We appreciate the Mequon Police Department for taking this matter seriously and for its commitment to community safety.

Milwaukee Jewish Federation remains committed to ensuring that Wisconsin is a place where Jews can live freely, safely, and proudly express their Jewish identity.

Voting is a civic duty and a Jewish value.

Rabbi Yitzhak taught, "A ruler is not to be appointed unless the community is first consulted" (Babylonian Talmud, Berachot 55a).

The JCRC was proud to witness the unveiling and ribbon cutting of the permanent public memorial: "I Didn't Do It Alone" honoring the late civil rights trailblazer and leader, Judge Vel R. Phillips. Despite the rain, many elected officials, diverse community leaders, artists and Phillips family members were present as internationally renowned artist, Karen Oliver unveiled her piece. Various speakers discussed the inspiration and meaning of Judge Phillips’ achievements as fueled by her core belief that real change requires collective effort. You may view the memorial at Vel Phillips Plaza located downtown Milwaukee at 401 W. Wisconsin Ave.
