Today is Election Day!
Polls are open from 7 am - 8 pm today.

Have you moved or changed your name since the last election? You can still register at the polls!

How do I register to vote?
Wisconsin offers same-day voter registration, so you can register at the polls up until 8 p.m. on election day. You need to bring proof of address to register.

How can I return my absentee ballot?
Absentee ballots need to be received by 8 p.m. on election day in order to be counted.

What should I bring to the polls?
Wisconsin law requires voters to present a photo ID for their vote to count.

Your photo ID does not need to show a current address. Poll workers will check the type of ID, name and photograph on the ID, and the date the ID expires.

When it comes to voting, it does not matter if your Wisconsin ID or license complies with the federal Real ID Act of 2005 . Wisconsin ID cards that do not meet Real ID requirements are acceptable forms of voter ID.

Acceptable Forms of Photo ID:
* Wisconsin driver license*
* WI DOT-issued photo ID card*
* U.S. passport*
* Military ID card*
* Certificate of naturalization issued within last 2 years
* Unexpired Wisconsin driver license or state ID receipt
* ID card issued by a Native American Tribe, regardless of expiration
* ID issued by a Wisconsin accredited university or college. ID must show the date issued and student signature. It must also show an expiration date within 2 years of issuance. If the ID is expired, proof of current enrollment is also required.
* Unexpired Veterans Affairs ID card

*The expiration date must be after the date of the last November election.

Obtaining a Photo ID
If you are eligible to vote but do not have a Wisconsin license or ID card, you may get a free ID for voting. If you do not have all the required documents, you may petition the DMV to verify your identity.

Hospitalized voters may appoint an agent to pick up their ballot from the City Clerk’s Office. The agent needs to bring the hospitalized voter’s photo ID to the Clerk’s Office.

Provisional Ballots
Voters unable to show an acceptable photo ID on Election Day may cast a provisional ballot.
Provisional ballots count if the voter provides the Clerk’s Office with an acceptable ID by 4 p.m. the Friday after the election.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WISCONSIN’S PARTISAN PRIMARY ELECTIONS

WISCONSIN HAS OPEN PRIMARIES
This means that voters don’t register with a party in order to vote in the primary election. Voters choose which party’s primary they want to vote in when completing their ballot.

WHAT’S ON THE BALLOT
When voting in the primary you will need to choose a party and can only vote for candidates in that one party. If you vote for candidates in multiple parties, your votes will not count.
Carefully read the instructions on your ballot. Double-check your ballot to make sure you completed it correctly.

HOW-TO FILL OUT YOUR PRIMARY BALLOT
• fill in the oval next to the party of your choice
• ONLY vote for candidates in that party

In-Person Absentee Voting is currently underway for the August 11 Partisan Primary election and will remain available through next week, with hours varying by municipality.

Not registered to vote?

You can still register until Friday, August 7.

Wisconsin also has same-day voter registration allowing voter registration at your polling place on Election Day.

WHAT IS JUNETEENTH?
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved Black Americans were free-more than two years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation.

WHY IS JUNETEENTH IMPORTANT?
* Marks the effective end of slavery in the United
States.
* Celebrates Black American freedom, resilience, and
achievement.
* Serves as a time for reflection, education, and
community engagement.
* Honors the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.

KEY HISTORICAL DATES:
January 1, 1863 - Emancipation Proclamation takes effect.
June 19, 1865 - Freedom announced in Galveston, Texas.
1866 - First Juneteenth celebrations held.
1980 - Texas becomes the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday.
2019 - Pennsylvania becomes the first state in the Northeast to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday.
June 17, 2021 - Juneteenth becomes a federal holiday in the United States through the signing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

It's unique as the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service, encouraging Americans to volunteer and improve their communities to build the "Beloved Community" Dr. King envisioned. The day is marked by marches, speeches, and community service projects.
