As May draws near to a close, we reflect on the importance of Mental Health Awareness Month.
On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave individuals who have selflessly served our nation, we honor them. Their sacrifices remind us that mental wellbeing and intentional self-care are essential to a life well-lived, as many ( including those near to us personally) have invested in mental health supports post/ during duty.
Recent US statistics shows that:
❗️1 in 5 adolescent girls live with diagnosed anxiety
❗️1 in 5 teen girls have reported violation by sexual assault leading to self-harm and depression
❗️53% of high school girls report persistent sadness.
This data reveals the need for supportive communities. At Power Gurlz, we have intentionally created opportunities for connection with the girls we serve in community and in the classroom. Providing tools of support, cultivate identity, engage a space of intentionality and care fueled by the Theme of Kindness, kind to self, kind to others, and be a recipient of kindness. Something so foundational, yet powerful in supporting one’s mental health, value, and relating with other’s.
Our recent survey quote a student:
“You helped me with my anxiety, thank you”
