Flashes of Hope-Milwaukee Chapter

Flashes of Hope-Milwaukee Chapter Our goal is to photograph every child until every child is cured. For a few moments, it doesn't seem like a hospital.

Children who haven't wanted to get out of bed are suddenly laughing and smiling. And, nurses take a break from administering medicine to join in the fun. Each month our volunteers transform hospital playrooms, waiting areas and even hallways into photography studios. Talented make-up artists help the children and their moms look and feel their best. Then each child is photographed individually and

with their closest supporters - siblings, parents and often a favorite nurse. Each family is presented with framed enlargements, proofs and a CD of all the images so they can make additional prints. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, all services are provided free of charge. A Flashes of Hope portrait is much more than a picture on the wall. It's an indescribable treasure that forever preserves the grace, dignity and beauty of each child.

We’ve known this for a while, but here is the official announcement. πŸŽ—

We are proud to announce that the fight against childhood cancer is about to get even stronger. Flashes of Hope has merged with our longtime charity partner Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). Together, we will continue to advance Flashes of Hope’s mission to accelerate a cure, while honoring the unique life and memories of every child fighting cancer.

Like Flashes of Hope, ALSF believes in finding better treatments for all kids and providing families with the critical support they need. Since 2012, our Foundations have partnered on 20 co-funded grants to fight all types of childhood cancer.

Moving forward, ALSF will handle coordination of the photography program. While we know the COVID-19 pandemic has put this experience on hold for families, we are hopeful that it will resume when the health and safety of volunteers, photographers and childhood cancer families can be assured. Tonight we have a very special Mr. & Mrs. Claus....Ashlee & Connor are at Candy Cane Lane in memory of their beautiful daughter, Delilah, who passed away earlier this year at age 3. Here's a piece of their story from Ashlee: "Delilah was the happiest, smartest, most well behaved little girl... She was diagnosed with stage 4 Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer with lung nodules in both lungs) on Aug 20, 2019. She had her lung nodules removed on Nov 7th and Nov 8th, then was placed on the liver transplant list on Nov 8th. She then had her transplant on Feb 8th. Cancer returned in her left lung post transplant, had surgery to remove part of her left lobe the day after Mother's Day. Two weeks after she had surgery, she had a stroke due to a brain hemorrhage (which ultimately meant her cancer made it into the brain), and passed away on May 26th. Thanksgiving was six months since we lost her...she LOVED going through Candy Cane Lane. When she had chemo in the day hospital and would be there til almost 6pm, we would drive through Candy Cane lane as a little treat to her." Thank you so much Ashlee & Connor for sharing your story and doing this tonight in honor of your sweet little daughter πŸ’›
