MARTA is an organization of Milwaukee County public school retirees, both teachers and supportive services staff such as social workers, psychologist, administrators, etc. We have four newsletters a year and meet four times a year (September, December, March and May) for luncheon meetings at area restaurants where we enjoy seeing former colleagues and making new friends from other public school di

stricts in Milwaukee County. Either an informational program or entertainment is provided at each of the luncheons. Business meetings are minimal with the business of the organization handled by the MARTA Board.

At MARTA’s March Luncheon~
Four of our members went home with handcrafted quilts that were crafted by LaVerne G. She has been providing MARTA with quilts for the March luncheon for at least the past eight years. And thirteen MARTA members went home with $16 gas gift cards from Kwik Trip. The cards are redeemable at any Kwik Trip location for gas or food.

The speaker for the March luncheon was Mr. Jameson Greenfield, Chief Financial Officer for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB). He was accompanied by Mr. Harrison Freuck. Mr. Greenfield told the membership about the upcoming increase in our pension benefits and the investment strategy of SWIB. These are difficult times for investment strategies, especially with the onset of the war with Iran, but SWIB has a very diversified portfolio to hopefully, weather most conditions. There has been a lot of talk lately about whether the Federal Reserve should raise or lower interest rates. He provided a very good understanding about the need to raise, lower, or hold steady with the current interest rate.

The MARTA September membership luncheon was held on Tuesday, 9 September, at the Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale. It was the second time we have met there. There were 95 people in attendance, and a “good time” was had by all. The meal was delicious. It included turkey, beef, mash potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad and rolls. Coffee, iced tea and soda were provided. We ended the meeting with music by Kenny Brandt. He played tunes that were familiar to us all. It was a very pleasant afternoon. Our next luncheon will be Monday, December 1st at Meyers Family restaurant (4260 S 76th St, Greenfield).
See you there!
