If you have ever been to Bradford Beach on the Lake Michigan shore in Milwaukee, you may have enjoyed beach volleyball, tiki bars, glistening clear water, the security of well-trained life guards, lounge chairs and about a mile long by .25 mile deep golden sandy beach. Great recreation for families or just hanging out with friends.
The Milwaukee County Park System does an awesome job by placing sturdy, covered garbage bins every 50 yards.
Ok, so here comes the mood crusher... those trash cans are invisible to some people. Yep. They can go totally unnoticed.
This doesn't apply to you, the friends of Earth Love, but how is it people can mash up cans or bury glass and plastic bottles in the beach and think it's ok to leave them behind? To enjoy a day filled with sunshine, picnicking on a beautiful stretch of sand is a gift. When blessed with a gift, how people can pollute it.
My assistant Tucker McLovin' (the boxer) and I started our Monday morning with some Earth Love at Bradford Beach. In two hours we covered about 1/3 of the beach and collected precisely 122 plastic bottles, 28 glass bottles, 65 aluminum cans, and 13.4 pounds of non-recyclable miscellaneous trash.
We are hosting a volunteer pick up, sorting and recycling event later in the summer. Stay tuned! You will all be invited to join us to play on the beach and in our beautiful Lake Michigan while we clean up. Happy Monday! .
