Friends of Estabrook Park To protect the environment and enhance the quality of beautiful Estabrook Park, located along the Milwaukee River in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.

We're a volunteer, non-profit organization that works to enhance the natural environment, eradicate invasive vegetation, enhance recreational amenities, advocate for open and well-maintained restrooms, and improve safety in Estabrook Park, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin. W**d outs! Come out to help us pull invasive weeds Saturday, May 2nd and May 16th. We meet at 9 am at the maintenance yard parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring a weeding tool if you have.

Now the hard part. Parks requires that all volunteers sign their official waiver. Please go on line to Milwaukee County Parks, click Make a Difference, then Volunteer Opportunities, and finally Park Stewards. In the Park Stewards section you will find the link to the County Parks Volunteer Agreement. Please complete this before the W**dout. The agreement is good for a year.

Two separate messages today. The first relates to the picture which shows the area below the south soccer fields. Area was full of invasive plants and dead ash. FOE cleared the invasives, and now Forestry has cleared the dead trees.

Second story - this morning Fritz and I encountered two coyotes near the former dam site. No pics - I was restraining Fritz who wanted to go after them. We watched them cross the river and come up the bank near us. The larger, about 35 pounds, was not timid but not threatening either. On the return trip we encountered him on the paved tail. He sauntered off when I yelled at him.
