He said he used to feel lonely and always sat in the corner. He may not have walked until age 4, talked until age 7...NOW he's a 6'10" sociable, strong athlete! Despite any challenges, he's headed to play D1๐Ÿ€ basketball, while getting a college education๐ŸŽ’! ๐ŸฅณCongratulations to Kalin Bennett for his dedication, tenacity, and growth and to his mother for her strength, resilience, and the will to have the foresight for her son's successes!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

As a child, Bennett was told he may never walk or talk.

"Parent Advocacy and Voice: When Diversity and Inclusion Does Not Translate into Equity and Justice!" was the title of our session at . This was a wonderful opportunity for Kesha to present alongside national, expert parent-leader professionals from diverse backgrounds. Thank you AUCD for the space and platform to have the conversation about equity for all children and a special thank you to Dr. Mercedes Avila, University of Vermont/VT LEND UVM for your sponsorship, the opportunity to stand next to you, and most of all for your tireless dedication to dismantling all of the -isms! ๐Ÿ™‚

Denial is just part of the grieving process. But many people correlate grieving with actual death and don't understand that parents can face very similar emotions once they receive an autism diagnosis for their child(ren). It's so difficult for parents of autism to overcome denial sometimes.
Check out this heartwarming ๐Ÿ’—clip of rapper OT Genasis discussing denial and acceptance regarding his son's autism diagnosis with host/ rnb singer Syleena Johnson who also has a child on the spectrum. Much love to SisterCircle and TVOne for celebrating autism awareness in our community.

Prevailing Pathway was absolutely humbled to be present for Bronzeville Week's Street Renaming Celebration ๐Ÿ’ซ in honor of Milwaukee civil rights powerhouse ๐Ÿ‘‘Vel Phillips, WI's first Black judge, first non-white Secretary of State, and Milwaukee's first female judge and so many other firsts!
As so many of us ponder over stepping out of our comfort zone and into greatness...we have to channel the spirit of our Elder Mrs. Phillips! She has shown us firsthand where courage, tenacity, and fearlessness can lead you.
I am inspired by her legacy to continue my work supporting families affected by ๐Ÿ’™autism in ways that are unprecedented in Milwaukee.
It was an important & impactful day...full of joy, celebration, and encouragement to do the necessary work!
๐Ÿ‘Thank you Aldw. Milele A. Coggs for a job-well done in executing today's event, but more importantly, your diligence in renaming 4th Street, from Capitol Dr. to St Paul Ave., North Vel R. Phillips Ave...just as Vel had wanted! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค
