Through Hanan Relief’s Gaza WASH Emergency Response, septic tanks help keep waste away from living areas, reduce exposure to insects and rodents, and create safer spaces for families.

September Volunteer of the Month: Michelle Lin! 🌟

This month, we’re proud to recognize Michelle Lin for her dedication to Hanan Relief and the communities we serve.

Michelle began volunteering with Hanan in March 2025 through her medical school’s TRIUMPH program. Since then, she has helped implement and facilitate our Maternal Health Education Program (MHEP) and organize Hanan’s annual health fair.

One of Michelle’s most memorable experiences was leading an MHEP session and seeing refugee women connect through shared stories about pregnancy and labor. Working alongside immigrant and refugee communities has been especially meaningful to her, and she looks forward to continuing to serve these populations throughout her career as a physician.

Outside of medical school and her work with Hanan, Michelle enjoys hiking, traveling, and trying new restaurants.

Thank you, Michelle, for your time, compassion, and commitment with Hanan. We’re grateful to have you as part of our volunteer community! 💚

Understanding a community is an essential part of caring for it.

Hanan recently welcomed 11 new TRIUMPH students to learn about our work supporting Milwaukee’s immigrant and refugee communities.

Led by TRIUMPH Program Manager Melissa Lemke, the conversation explored the social and cultural factors that can affect access to healthcare and how future physicians can collaborate with community organizations to better support the whole person.

We’re proud to be a TRIUMPH community partner and help prepare future medical professionals to become thoughtful, engaged members of the communities they serve.

Access to safe sanitation and basic hygiene is essential to protecting health and preserving dignity.

Throughout the remainder of August and September, Hanan Relief is implementing its $375,000 Gaza WASH Emergency Response to provide septic tanks and essential hygiene kits for displaced families.

💧 $138 provides a hygiene kit for one family
💧 $273 provides a septic tank for one tent

Fresh food can make a meaningful difference for families facing food insecurity.

Through our ongoing partnership with Loveland Acres Farm, Hanan Relief recently received 30 bags of fresh fruits and vegetables to distribute to clients alongside their food boxes.

As more families experience changes in food assistance, donations like these help provide access to fresh, nutritious food when it’s needed most.

We’re grateful to Scarlett and everyone at Loveland Acres Farm for supporting our community for the past two years and to volunteer Ben Slowey for picking up and delivering this generous donation!

Our Dr. Ahmad Nasef Scholarship recipients came to Wisconsin as refugees. Their journeys have not been easy, but through every challenge, they kept going, kept learning, and kept believing in what was possible.

Today, we celebrate their resilience, their accomplishments, and their dreams for the future.
