The Rohingya Student Association at MATC was honored to attend the Rohingya Reclaimed: Echoes of Arakan Advocacy Training Program, hosted by the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network. This meaningful event brought together Rohingya youth and community members to strengthen leadership, advocacy, and cultural identity.

Through this training, our members gained valuable knowledge on effective advocacy strategies, community organizing, and the importance of raising awareness about the ongoing struggles and resilience of the Rohingya people. We also learned how education, unity, and youth leadership can create lasting change for future generations.

We sincerely thank the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network for hosting such an impactful program and for investing in the voices of Rohingya youth. The Rohingya Student Association at MATC remains committed to applying what we learned to empower our community, preserve our heritage, and continue advocating for justice and human rights.

Rohingya Student Association at Milwaukee Area Technical College recently had the meaningful opportunity to visit and engage with the Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan University . This experience provided a powerful platform for reflection, education, and dialogue on some of the most profound and painful chapters in human history. Through its exhibits and discussions, we gained deeper insight into the consequences of hatred, discrimination, and the silence that often enables injustice.

As Rohingya students, this visit carried a deeply significance. The histories and testimonies presented at the center strongly resonated with the ongoing genocide of Rohingya people in Myanmar. It served as a reminder that the struggles of our community are part of a broader global history of persecution that must be recognized, remembered, and addressed. This journey strengthened our commitment to raising awareness, advocating for justice, and amplifying the voices of those who have been silenced.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan University for fostering a space dedicated to truth, remembrance, and education. Together, we remain committed to upholding dignity, justice, and humanity for all.

We are proud to share that the Rohingya Student Association collaborated with the Muslim Students Association at Milwaukee Area Technical College to organize meaningful Iftar events in Oak Creek and Downtown Milwaukee.

These gatherings brought together students, families, and community members to break fast, strengthen unity, and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan. It was truly inspiring to see such a diverse group come together in faith, compassion, and community.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Rohingya American Society-RAS and Burmese Rohingya Community of Wisconsin for their continuous support, generosity, and dedication in making these events possible. Your contributions played a vital role in creating a welcoming and memorable experience for everyone involved.

May this collaboration continue to grow and bring even more positive impact in the future.

Once again, we are honored to share that the executive members of the Rohingya Student Association proudly attended the legislative seminar hosted by the WSG Wisconsin Student Government, representing Milwaukee Area Technical College and advocating for policies that directly impact the Rohingya community at MATC and students across Wisconsin.

As our community are from refugee and first-generation backgrounds, we emphasized the importance of advancing affordable education through recurring funding for open educational resources, strengthening career services to expand mentorship and internship pathways, and increasing Wisconsin Grant support for students with significant financial need. At MATC, an institution that serves a diverse and high-need student population.

These investments are essential to student persistence and success. For Rohingya students, education represents far more than academic achievement; it is a pathway to stability, dignity, and long-term opportunity. Our participation reflected our commitment to representation and responsible advocacy, ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of our community help inform legislative decisions shaping equitable access to higher education throughout Wisconsin.
