SUMMER IS HERE

Helping Youth Stay Active, Connected & Growing

As another school year comes to a close, many families are looking forward to a well-earned summer break. But for young people, summer can be a time when structure disappears and positive connections become harder to find.

That's why programs like City Champs matter.

Throughout the summer, we'll be partnering with schools, community organizations, parks, and youth-serving agencies across Milwaukee and Racine to provide free martial arts, character development, and mentorship opportunities.

Every class is about more than learning a technique. It's about building confidence, learning how to handle challenges, developing discipline, respect, accountability, and resilience. It's about creating a positive environment where kids can connect with mentors, make friends, and continue growing.

When young people stay connected to positive communities, amazing things happen.

Thank you to our coaches, volunteers, partners, donors, and supporters who make this work possible. Because of you, hundreds of young people will have access to safe, welcoming spaces this summer where they can learn, grow, and thrive.

Together, we're opening the door to martial arts and building stronger communities one student at a time.

See you in the community this summer!

Showing up for our community! Building character across Milwaukee, one connection at a time.

Over the last few weeks, City Champs Foundation has been out connecting with families and opening doors to martial arts across our city! We attended Milwaukee's Peace Week closing event and celebrated the launch of Summer of Healing programming. We connected with dozens of families while sharing information about our free City Champs classes and Building Character programs.

We also spent time at Riverside High School promoting City Champs programming and connecting with students interested in martial arts, mentorship, and positive community involvement. Every conversation matters. Sometimes one connection is all it takes to help a young person find confidence, discipline, and a healthy outlet through martial arts!

And we joined Girls on the Run at their 5K event at American Family Field to support the incredible work they do empowering young girls through movement, confidence, and community!

Relationships build communities, and communities help change lives.

If your school, organization, or community event would like City Champs Foundation to attend, collaborate, or provide programming, we would love to connect with you!

Thank you for being part of the City Champs community!

Happy Memorial Day from City Champs Foundation 🇺🇸

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day reminds us that freedom, safety, and opportunity often come through sacrifice, courage, and service to something bigger than ourselves.

Many of the values we teach through martial arts—respect, discipline, courage, accountability, and service to others—are the same values demonstrated by those who served our country.

At City Champs, we believe martial arts is about more than learning techniques. It's about helping young people grow into confident, respectful, and resilient leaders both on and off the mats.

As families spend time together today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by others and appreciate the opportunities we have.

🇺🇸 Schedule Reminder: All City Champs classes are canceled on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular programming continues throughout the rest of the week.

We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend. Thank you for being part of a community that believes in building stronger kids, stronger families, and a stronger Milwaukee.

Your Voice Matters 🏀🥋⚽

We're partnering with Project Play, Bader Philanthropies, and the Milwaukee Youth Sports Task Force to hear directly from YOU.

Too many Milwaukee kids lose access to sports because of cost, transportation, or lack of opportunity. This survey helps us understand those barriers and work toward real solutions.

If you're between 10-17 years old, we want to hear from you. The survey is:
✓ Anonymous
✓ Voluntary
✓ Takes just a few minutes
✓ Designed to improve youth sports in Milwaukee

Help shape the future of youth sports in our city. Take the survey by June 30, 2026.

Every child deserves the opportunity to play sports.

Not just the naturally athletic kids.
Not just the confident kids.
Not just the kids with experience, money, or connections.

Every child.

Martial arts can completely change a young person's life. They teach discipline, confidence, emotional control, teamwork, respect, perseverance, and how to handle challenges in a healthy way. They create friendships, mentors, structure, and community.

Organizations all over the country are pushing for a stronger focus on youth access to sports and recreation through initiatives like the Project Play Children's Bill of Rights. One part that really stood out to us:

"Organizations should make every effort to accommodate children's interests to participate, and to help them play with peers from diverse backgrounds."

We love that message.

On the mats at City Champs, everyone learns together. Everyone grows together. Everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Some kids come in shy.
Some come in full of energy.
Some struggle with focus.
Some are natural leaders.
Some are just looking for a place where they feel accepted.

And over time, they all begin building confidence together.

We're proud to continue opening the door for Milwaukee youth to experience martial arts in a positive, welcoming environment. Every child who steps on the mats deserves encouragement, patience, opportunity, and a team around them that believes in their growth.

Thank you to all the parents, coaches, donors, schools, and supporters who help make that possible every week.

Let's keep building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities together. 💙

See you on the mats!

Who Are You When No One Is Watching?

At City Champs, we're not just teaching martial arts—we're building character.

The real growth happens in the small moments. When a student resets position the right way without being told. When they help a teammate up instead of walking away. When they choose honesty over taking the easy way out.

That's character.

On the mats, this looks like respect, discipline, and accountability. Off the mats, it turns into trust, responsibility, and leadership.

The kids who develop this habit are the ones who stand out over time. Not because they're the most talented, but because they're consistent in how they show up.

Parents, you can reinforce this at home too. The little things matter. The quiet decisions matter.

That's where confidence is built. That's where leaders are made.

Let's keep guiding them to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. 🥋

Life isn't always sunny skies. There will be hard days, setbacks, and moments that feel uncomfortable.

That's part of life.

The goal isn't to avoid every storm. The goal is to learn how to move through it.

At City Champs, martial arts helps kids build the tools to handle challenges in a healthy way. They learn to stay calm under pressure, keep trying after mistakes, and keep showing up even when something feels difficult.

Every class teaches resilience.

Sometimes the storm looks like losing a match. Sometimes it's struggling in school. Sometimes it's conflict with friends. Sometimes it's fear or self-doubt.

The kids who grow strongest aren't the ones who avoid storms. They're the ones who learn they can make it through them.

As parents, coaches, and mentors, remind your kids: hard moments don't last forever. Keep breathing. Keep learning. Keep moving forward.

Storms pass. Strength remains.

See you on the mats! 💪

Earn It. Every Single Day.

In martial arts, nothing is given… it's earned.

Every stripe, every belt, every technique that actually works comes from effort. From showing up. From trying, failing, adjusting, and trying again.

The students who grow fastest are not always the most naturally talented. They are the ones who listen, take feedback, and apply it. They work hard when it's fun… and they keep working when it's not.

The Real Lesson:

It's about working hard even when no one is watching. Taking responsibility for your progress. Owning your mistakes instead of making excuses. Showing up, especially on the days you don't feel like it.

These habits build strong martial artists… and even stronger people.

This Goes Far Beyond Jiu-Jitsu:

What your kids are learning here goes far beyond self-defense. They're learning how to earn their progress in life.

Because the same rules apply as they grow up:
• Success is earned, not handed out
• Respect is built through actions
• Confidence comes from doing hard things

And it all starts with small daily decisions… like showing up to class, giving their best effort, and staying coachable.

We're proud of the work these kids are putting in. Let's keep leveling up together. 💪

One of the most important traits we can build in our kids, both on and off the mats, is coachability.

Being coachable is more than just listening. It's listening and applying. It's hearing feedback, making adjustments, and trying again with intention.

We see it every day. The kids who improve fastest aren't always the strongest or most naturally talented. They're the ones who stay open. They take feedback without shutting down. They're willing to try, even when it feels uncomfortable.

That's where real growth happens.

Defensiveness slows everything down. When ego gets involved, learning stops. When a child feels like they need to be right all the time, they miss the opportunity to get better.

Our goal is to help every student build that growth mindset. Feedback isn't criticism, it's guidance. It's someone helping you move forward.

This skill goes far beyond martial arts. Coachable kids become adaptable adults. They learn faster, handle challenges better, and build stronger relationships because they know how to listen, adjust, and grow.

Encourage your child to lean into feedback this week. Remind them that every correction is an opportunity.

Let's keep building strong, coachable leaders together.

See you on the mats. 🥋

The energy your child brings into the room matters more than you think.

One attitude can lift a whole room or bring it down. One student showing great effort, helping a partner, and staying positive can shift the entire class. That's leadership.

Your child doesn't need to be the most skilled or the most athletic to make an impact. They just need to show up ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to support their teammates.

Before your child steps on the mat this week, remind them:

"Bring good energy. Give your best effort. Help your teammates."

That's how we build strong individuals and an even stronger community.

See you on the mats. 🥋
