The brothers of the Delta Chi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated mourn the passing and celebrate the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of our beloved fraternity brother, Brother Dr. William Finlayson, who has entered Omega Chapter.

Initiated into Beta Nu Chapter on December 21, 1942, Brother Dr. Finlayson exemplified the very essence of Alpha Phi Alpha through a lifetime committed to scholarship, servant leadership, perseverance, and love for all mankind. As one of Milwaukee’s pioneering African American OB-GYN physicians, he broke barriers in medicine, delivered thousands of babies, and cared for generations of families throughout our community with compassion, dignity, and excellence.

Brother Dr. Finlayson’s impact extended far beyond medicine. He was a visionary leader who helped establish North Milwaukee State Bank, Wisconsin’s first Black-owned bank, helping create pathways for Black economic empowerment and opportunity in Milwaukee. His life’s work helped shape not only the presence of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated within this city, but also the broader legacy of Black excellence, leadership, and community advancement throughout Milwaukee.

For generations, he stood as a beacon of grace, intellect, service, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others. His legacy will forever live on through the countless lives he touched, the barriers he dismantled, the institutions he helped build, and the many people he inspired to pursue excellence and service above self.

We extend our deepest prayers and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, patients, fraternity brothers, and all who were blessed to know and love him.
