For our YouthBuild members, the classroom doesn’t always have four walls.

Sometimes it’s a porch. A set of stairs. A wall to frame. A problem to solve on a real jobsite.

They’re learning the trades alongside experienced construction professionals while helping build affordable homes right here in Milwaukee.

That’s one of the best things about YouthBuild. What they’re learning today is becoming part of a home a Milwaukee family will live in tomorrow.

Their classroom is the community’s next affordable house.

And it’s not just construction. They’re working on certifications, career exploration, financial literacy, teamwork, leadership and everything else that comes with getting ready for what’s next.

A big part of YouthBuild is helping our members see what is possible after the program.

That means more than just learning skills on a jobsite. We intentionally connect YouthBuilders with people working in the trades and career paths that can lead to family sustaining wages.

This week, that included a conversation around CDL careers, what it takes to get started, and the opportunities available in that field.

The goal is simple: expose our members to real careers, connect them with people already doing the work, and help them build relationships that can turn into their next opportunity.

We’re proud to keep opening doors and helping our YouthBuilders build toward careers with real long term potential.

MCC YouthBuild members did an incredible job helping renovate a housing unit through Hebron House, with support from the NARI Milwaukee Foundation.

Projects like this show what YouthBuild can look like at its best: young people giving back to the community while building real construction skills, learning on an active project, and growing toward future careers.

Our members get the chance to do meaningful work that matters to someone else while also gaining experience, confidence, and workforce skills they can carry forward.

Huge credit to our YouthBuild members for the work they put in, and thank you to Hebron House and the NARI Milwaukee Foundation for creating an opportunity where community impact and youth development could happen at the same time.

Connecting young people who are interested in the trades with capable organizations, real opportunities, and people who can help them build a future is what MCC YouthBuild is all about.

Amir’s experience at the Hope Summit is a great example of that work in action. These connections can open doors to training, employment, stability, and long term success for our members and their families.

We’re excited to keep building those bridges and helping young people turn an interest in the trades into a real pathway forward.

A big thank you to VanWyks and Fischer Construction for helping us get our next two homes started in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood.

And a shoutout to Orlando Acevedo, one of the great members of our MCC team who helps make projects like this possible.

These homes will provide quality affordable housing while also serving as hands-on training sites for our YouthBuild participants as they gain real jobsite experience and prepare for careers in the skilled trades.

Proud to keep bringing housing and workforce development together through another MCC project.

Congratulations to YouthBuild Alumni Axel Brizuela! Axel was recently hired with Integrity Decking LLC. Axel is even being trained by another YouthBuild Alumni who has excelled in his role so far. We are excited for this next step in Axel’s trades journey! May you shine as much as you did in YB! 🎉

A big congratulations is in order for YouthBuild Alumni Cintia Soria on starting her dream career! 🎉✨

Cintia recently started her apprenticeship with the Operators Union and has been loving her journey so far! Thank you Michels Corporation and IUOE Local 139 for welcoming Cintia with open arms. She has spoken so highly of her recent experiences.

Cintia has shared that as a first generation high school graduate and proud daughter of immigrants, that she feels proud, with a large sense of accomplishment to represent her community and family’s journey in the attainment of her goals!

Cintia’s advice to others is to “take risk, and to do it even if you are scared. There’s no reward without risk”.

We are incredibly proud of you Cintia!

Because hard work and dedication pays off!

Congrats to YouthBuild member TyDre Johnson on starting his new job this week as a Carpenter Apprentice with Stevens Construction Corp. TyDre not only showed up everyday while in YB, but was a quick learner and reliable help on the worksite. He is someone who takes initiative and has a passion for the craft. He not only grew in skills and knowledge, but as a person while in programming. MCC YouthBuild believes in creating a training space for life skills in the field, while also maintaining accountability and guiding members in areas they can grow. TyDre embodies preparation met opportunity, and today is evidence of that. Continue to be great TyDre. Your career awaits you 🎉.
