An affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book, the WI Center honors all aspects of the literary world and provides a link between our citizens and writers, illustrators, publishers, librarians, and educators.

We are thrilled to announce Wisconsin's 2026 Great Reads selections for the National Book Festival!

Youth Selection:
Valiant Vel: Vel Phillips and the Fight for Fairness and Equality by Jerrianne Hayslett, illustrated by Aaron Boyd

Adult Selection:
American Birkebeiner: The Nation's Greatest Ski Marathon by Jerome P. Poling

These outstanding books showcase Wisconsin's rich history, remarkable people, and enduring spirit. This year's selections also complement the National Book Festival's America 250 celebration, highlighting themes of perseverance, civic courage, community, and the stories that help define our nation.

Join us in congratulating the authors and illustrator whose work will represent Wisconsin at the 2026 National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.!
