Hope Street Ministry Hope Street is The Greenhouse for People on 26th & Capitol. Hope Street is the Greenhouse for People on 26th and Capitol.

We provide housing and community to empower broken men, women, and children to cultivate a relationship with Jesus, themselves, and others to restore hope that flourishing is possible for us all. We give broken men, women and children a safe place to grow. We cultivate hope and build community as we live out the ministry of Jesus on the northside of Milwaukee. Hope Street provides housing and healing to about 50 men, women, and children whose lives have been profoundly affected by the toxic environment they grew up in, their own choices, or drug and alcohol abuse. Empowered by the active Grace of Christ, the staff, volunteers and members cultivate a nurturing community in which we can live, learn and develop new habits that help people flourish.

Serve Saturday was a reminder of what makes Hope Street so special: people showing up, rolling up their sleeves, and building community.

We’re so grateful for this amazing crew who gave their time, energy, and hearts to serve alongside us.

"Hannah leaves people and spaces better than she found them. Her creativity spills over into everything she does, and she has a knack for helping a vision come to life. She is kind, present and always up to help people feel seen and valued." -Ashley

"Working at Hope Street feels like something I was always meant to do. It's provided the community I've prayed for, the belonging I've sought, and the purpose I needed. I'm so thankful." -Hannah

"I have been writing regular questions on the whiteboard near the gym at Shechem over the past couple of weeks. I grab members walking by and get them to answer questions like “what is belonging”, “what does it mean to be in your flourishing zone” or “who is one person who you look up to”. For me, it has sparked a lot of really good conversations and brought some joy to my day.

Today I wrote, “when you’re feeling down, how do you want to be supported?” "

Click below to read some of the answers that Kendall received on the white board, and join us in praying for our young men.

Afternoons at Shechem are full of opportunities to build community. We have volunteers come in from all walks of life: college students, retired men and women, folks in the neighborhood, and groups from partner churches. Most people who come in aren't quite sure what they'll be doing, but come in with an open mind and willing spirit. And usually what ends up happening is sweet conversations, genuine connections, and some really fun moments.

We do really well at planning, programming, and organizing--but the best things happen when people keep showing up, and when they're present in our community.

Thank you, Jesus, for all the beautiful things happening at Shechem every day.
