Writing by hand increases brain activity in recall tasks over taking notes on a tablet or smartphone. Additionally, those who write by hand on paper are 25% quicker at note-taking tasks than those who use digital technology.

I am stuck at Children’s Hospital, and coincidentally, one of my son’s life specialists used to work in oncology. We got to talking and I told her my son’s difficulty with writing, and how frustrating that is for me, because I enjoy lettering, and and how our guild is making cards today for Children’s Hospital. Her face brightened and she asked if I was involved with the Cream City Calligraphers. Our guild’s name just rolled off her tongue, and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of such a wonderful, considerate group. She said the kids really are tickled to get the cards and the staff loves seeing our work, too. I just wanted to share the story to you all. While you assemble your cards tonight, know that they love them here, and not only do they brighten the kids’ day, but the staff, too. And as a parent trapped with a very sick little boy, I personally can tell you just the smallest gesture melts my heart. Knowing someone cared enough to add a little brightness to his day lightens the load, and you are making a difference. Have fun tonight! I will miss you all. — Stacy

With great sadness and a heavy heart we are mourning the loss of Linda Salisbury. She was a long time member of Cream City Calligraphers and such an amazing artists. Her presence will be greatly missed.
