You need to fight for your baby's health! Consider these facts:
THE HORRIBLE PROBLEM
1) Black babies die at nearly three times the rate of white babies in Milwaukee,
2) The infant mortality rate in Milwaukee is worse than the rate in Malaysia, Latvia, Cuba, Chile, Thailand and 62 other countries. What are the causes? Researchers believe it is a combination of economic, social, and environmental
factors including poverty, households predominantly lead by single mothers, and moms who smoke, use drugs and suffer from hypertension, diabetes, obesity, mental unhealthiness, sexually transmitted diseases and urinary tract infections. These factors, sometimes in combination, may lead to chronic, toxic stress which results in preterm birth (before 37 weeks) which too often results in the loss of the child. 88 black infants died in Milwaukee in 2016. Another cause is sleeping with babies which too often results in suffocation. This is unacceptable to our God and us! WHAT WE DO
We strive to offer love, compassion, support and knowledge to moms and their babies, many who are among the most vulnerable of God’s children. We work to help assure some things that are generally taken for granted in the United States. For moms it is the prospect of delivering a healthy baby at term. For the baby it is the chance to live a full and healthy life. In order to try and help achieve this we serve the expectant mother’s spiritual, emotional and physical needs through:
• Monthly women/mom’s gatherings-
Women, both expectant and new moms, gather once a month to share in learning, scripture and conversation, while enjoying a light lunch together. Child care is provided. Guest speakers join us to empower and encourage moms to be the best moms that God has created them to be. We strive to provide both emotional and spiritual support as they raise their children. We distribute diapers and wipes at each meeting
• Infant panty
We have a pantry of supplies that are available to those who are experiencing an emergency.
• Strong baby box
Our Strong Baby Box Initiative provides a "sleeping box" full of infant supplies and a reference manual that is provided to each expectant/new mom who completes Milwaukee’s educational syllabus through Baby Box University.
• Availability of counseling
