Urbanize Finance

Urbanize Finance Mission: to eliminate historic, persistent racial gaps in financial literacy and wealth.

Urbanize Finance is dedicated to closing historic, persistent racial disparity gaps in financial literacy and wealth. Our mission is accomplished by, simultaneously, promoting finance industry (public & private equity, venture capital, investment banking, financial planning, etc.) inclusion AND financial literacy through an unrelenting combination of education, awareness, and exceptionally strong

advocacy, relying on traditional and non-traditional mediums of ex*****on. Creation of a standardized “Fī.Q” Test is a long-term objective of our mission at Urbanize Finance. Presently, Urbanize Finance--in partnership with Learn Deep and UWM--is working on developing a framework for project-based learning at the middle and high school level that incorporates fundamental financial analysis, an important component of all decision-making. The upshot, among many others, is a student pipeline that is sufficiently prepared (through analytical deliberation and problem-solving) for (1) the rigors of college; (2) the jobs of the future (private and public); and (3) to tackle the real-world challenges of tomorrow. It is the first of many efforts to coagulate a project-based learning ecosystem.

Budgeting...easily the very first act of a financially literate mind. We cannot build wealth without this simple act. It is simple in application--but monumental in its implications.

Why the DIY approach to tracking your spending pays off.

Great session today with our partners, Learn Deep and UWM’s Lubar School of Business, as we flesh out a sustainable program around experiential/project-based learning that will enhance the K-12/collegiate experience and maximize community impact.

Urbanize Finance is a big proponent of experiential/service learning, as the real-world skills developed through such learning is priceless. Such benefits, however, are not reserved exclusively for the current college population. Beginning at the junior/high school levels, such project-based learning (incorporating the basics of finance and the economics of decision-making, and the concurrent problem-solving/analytical skills developed, for example) could lead to an urban student population pipeline that is more college-ready than previous generations which, in turn, lead to higher graduation rates and greater job satisfaction. UF is currently partnering with UWM's Lubar College of Business and Learn Deep Milwaukee, among other community partners, to initiate such programming.

The Marquette fund partnered on Borgman Capital’s May purchase of five buildings with a combined 478,000 square feet.

Although this is Financial Literacy Month, it is always a good time to learn how to better manage our finances, a critical first step toward eliminating historic racial disparities in financial literacy and wealth.

According to a survey conducted by Lending Club Corp & Co., by the end of 2022, nearly 166 million Americans lived paycheck-to-paycheck, marking a 3% increase from the previous year. Worse still, those making over $100K accounted for 86% of the increase (or 8 million high-income earners).

Contrary to popular misconception, the appropriateness of financial literacy is not limited to low-wage earners. While inflation--and the historical failure of real wages to keep pace--offers some explanation for the increase, we cannot discount the importance of smart financial management.

The share of Americans who say they live paycheck-to-paycheck climbed last year, and most of the new arrivals in that category were among the country’s higher earners, a new study shows.
