Today, MKE a Scene is grateful for Stillwave Studios
This entire album wouldn’t be possible without Alex Meylink and Erik Atwell. Alex didn’t even let me finish my sentence when I asked him to help with ‘Sleighin’ it’.
Stillwave Studios is an up and coming studio based in Walkers Point at the Factory, Alex produces the music and Erik masters them up. A little over a year and a half old, Stillwave has been pumping out the jams for Milwaukee bands like crazy. These fun and animated guys sure do have a good time in the studio, helping the creativity flow and the head bopping.
Recording groups like Devon Kay and the Solutions, Telethon, No Show Cadillac, and Hot By Ziggy, Stillwave Studios have a great repertoire that helps MKE music survive and thrive. Since opening, they have made some serious improvements in their space and their drum room is a beautiful piece of engineering.
Along with Stillwave, these guys have a good amount going on in Milwaukee. Both being members of Telethon, they also own and operate Halloween records. Another music minded business helping MKE artists. During the quarantine, Alex has also started his own Kambucha brewing company, Bolo Boy's Beverage Co. with two other partners.
Here at MKE a Scene, we can’t thank these two enough for their time and the effort they both put into ‘Sleighin it’.

Today, MKE a Scene is grateful for Hot By Ziggy
A couple horns, some ska, with a little touch of island flavor, bake at 400 for 45 minutes and you get something along the lines of HBZ. Andrew Klain, Eric Johnson, Greg Zupek, David Wage, and Phil Davies round out this cast of characters who helped put a little pep in the step of ‘Let it snow’. Gentle piano quickly turns into a fun and bright melody only to resolve in a peaceful reggae wrapup.

Hot By Ziggy has been a little busy during quarantine putting on a couple live streams and releasing an ep the same day as ‘Sleighin it.’ The 4 song album, ‘Let Down Your Hair’, pays tribute to their good friend Alex Kultgen, who passed away earlier in the year and the album art reflects this as well. Crunchy guitar licks, harmonic horns, and some FAT bass lines make this a can’t miss album.

Today, MKE a Scene is grateful for, Scott Starr!!
As we all know, holidays can be...hard. We say you take a break from the bickering with uncle Frank, set things aside, and enjoy all the sugary butter you’re about to ingest. Scott Starr takes the classic Ramone’s song, ‘Merry Christmas, I don’t want to fight tonight’ and gives it an upbeat and creative spin this album couldn’t do without. The crunchy vocals and persistent drums, laid down by Sam Sieger, drive this song with energy and character all around. Joey made it but we enjoy Scott’s just as much.
Scott Starr is a man of many skills who decided that he wanted his work to reflect who he was and not the reverse. Founder of the branding company, Rev Pop, Starr, and his teammates use ALL types of media to promote their client’s services with ‘aesthetic propaganda’. A Milwaukee minded group, Rev Pop is creative solutions for creative business. With a portfolio that includes Good City Brewing, Lowlands Grand Cafés, and Foxfire Food Truck, (best chicken sandwiches in the city) we really appreciate their dedication to keeping originality at the forefront of whatever they do.
Scott does what he does all in one place that includes, branding, web design, advertising, packaging, you name it. Not complete without a studio, Scott engineered and produced his song himself at Rev Pop and we couldn’t have asked for a better recording.
Scott has a new photography project, The Super Volta, that is remarkably beautiful. Using only strategic lighting and no after effects, he is giving clients a unique and true perspective of the moments they want to keep.

Day 19 of 31!
Today, MKE a Scene is grateful for Biju Jibu Zimmerman
The Shepherd Express Mr. Milwaukee himself, Biju had 4 artists committed to the album and a song in MKE a Scene’s inbox within the first hour of helping out! A pure man of the people, this guy exhumes what it is to be a real Milwaukeean who gives back and is there for the people and business in his community.

The amount of projects this guy has going on at any given time would hurt anyone’s brain but he seems to commit and deliver every time. Laying down drum tracks for various Milwaukee artists, bartending at the Backyard in bayview, or promoting local artists, Biju spends his time making sure the Cream City has a presence.

Biju spent a good amount of time on the road with his band, Carolina and acted as tour manager for acts of the likes of performers like Eric Benét and aleem_mua. When asked who should be in charge of promotion, he was at the top of the list alone.

The amount of experience and partnerships he brought to the table helped MKE a Scene get this album done and the word out. Thank you Biju!!

Day 18 of 31!!!
Today, MKE a Scene is grateful for, The Door Stoppers.
“Then all the Reindeer loved him, and they shouted out with glee!!!!”
MKE a Scene is filled to the top with ‘glee’ over The Door Stoppers decision to cover ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Old soul Aidan White, Stag Barber extraordinaire and frontman, leads the stoppers in this 40s swinging version of the little reindeer that could. Booming upright bass, cavalier vocals, gypsy jazz drumming, and a wailing saxophone that brings people to their knees, these guys can get hips-a-swingin’ and feet-a-steppin’.
With one of the most unique sounds coming out of Milwaukee, The Door Stoppers have a little something for everyone. Whether sipping back a cocktail and talking to a friend or going all-out on the dance floor, their range from gentle to swing can be used for any setting this great city has to offer.

We cannot wait for what is next from this talented group.
