Brooklyn-based tattoo artist Travis Fountain creates surreal black-and-gray imagery that feels like scenes from an unfinished film. Join us for "Running in the Dark", part of MIAD's Creativity Series, as Travis discusses his path from engineering to art, the power of intuition and how personal stories become richly detailed visual narratives.

We are grateful to Nadeena Granville '19 (NSP/Digital Media Production) for serving as the inaugural speaker in our Alumni Career Series, sharing valuable career insights with Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design students as they prepare for their professional futures!

As Creative Director at Gaining Visuals, Nadeena shared her experience in videography, photography, art direction and brand development for client marketing campaigns, social media platforms, and websites. She also co-curated the first exhibition of Black women photographers in Milwaukee and currently serves as Vice President of the MIAD Alumni Board.

This is the first in a new series of MIAD alumni speaker events designed to connect students with professional insights and prepare them for the workplace.

The Bauhaus movement was integral to the curriculum and culture of MIAD's predecessor, The Layton School of Art. In summer 2026, MIAD students participated in a faculty-led Study Abroad program to Germany, exploring areas where the Bauhaus movement transformed art and design. A full circle moment for MIAD!

MIAD alumni often cite their MIAD Study Abroad or U.S. travel programs as incredibly transformative experiences as students! Tell us about it in the comments! ⬇️

Terry Coffman helped shape the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design into the nationally recognized college it is today, serving as MIAD’s President from 1983–2003. His leadership transformed the institution and left a lasting impact on thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and friends of the college.

Terry’s daughter, Cori Coffman, is honoring his legacy by leading an effort to establish the Terrence J. Coffman Endowed Scholarship at MIAD. Cori is inviting family, friends, alumni, and members of the MIAD community to join her in reaching the $25,000 goal needed to endow the scholarship and provide support for MIAD students in Terry’s name for generations to come.

Please join us for the celebratory public launch of the scholarship at the Alumni Fall Gathering on Friday, October 16, 2026.

We also invite you to submit a favorite memory, photo, or reflection about Terry. These contributions will help create an archive celebrating the enduring impact of his leadership and the many lives he touched at MIAD.

To submit a favorite memory, or to join Cori in establishing the Terrence J. Coffman Endowed Scholarship, visit miad.edu/coffman.

“Ruling Class, War/Civil War, Cocoon and Bathroom” by 1960 alum Eugene (Gene) Donner (1935-2025) is now on view at Aquae Nguvu Gallery. Drawn from approximately 230 pieces in his estate, the exhibition is the first major public showing of Donner's work in Milwaukee, after a lifetime spent on the West Coast.

Donner's lifelong mantra “Peace on Earth & Justice for All” wove the fabric of his life experience and existence. Multiple paintings and sculptures revolve around this mantra.

Donner’s family is honored and proud to showcase and share his artwork with the Milwaukee public once again.

On view through October 24, 2026.
