Parents of children with ASD, SPD, ADHD, special needs of any and all kinds, "disabilities".....
If you need support find a support group. If you are struggling talk with their team or your disability rights specialist..... There are so many ways to get education and support but PLEASE STOP framing your child's diagnosis in a negative way. How the hell would you feel to see a video or post from your parents riddled with words like "autistic" or "disabled" inserted before your name? How would you feel if someone shared private/personal things about you without your permission?
When you repeatedly use certain words it's hard to see anything else. When you cry, share about struggling with behaviors or symptoms you are telling your child something IS WRONG WITH THEM when in fact, they are just as they should be!
Please respect your children's rights and privacy. Know what your child is comfortable with (I have always tried to frame these different needs in a positive way while empowering my kids to use their abilities and differences in a way that works for them. My kids all have different levels of comfortability with labels, diagnosis, etc)
I understand having that parenting is overwhelming sometimes and it's ok to share but be mindful I'm where and how you are sharing.
Discrimination, misinformation, abelism and stigmas are out there but our job is to teach them self-love, self-respect, self-reliance, self-esteem, etc and we do that by finding ways around all the bu****it.
