**A milestone for Milwaukee’s neighborhoods! 🏡**

On Thursday, RON (Reclaiming Our Neighborhoods) partners joined Mayor Cavalier Johnson for the signing of legislation establishing Residential Rental Inspection Districts in Milwaukee, including a pilot district in the Uptown neighborhood.

RON has been a partner in developing and advocating for this program because we believe **proactive housing inspections are an important tool for addressing landlord negligence and preventing poor housing conditions before they worsen.**

This legislation represents an important step toward holding property owners accountable for maintaining safe, healthy housing and protecting the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

We’re proud to see this effort move forward and grateful to the many neighborhood leaders, advocates, and public officials who helped make it possible--- City of Milwaukee City of Milwaukee-Department of Neighborhood Services Russell Stamper II We look forward to seeing how the Uptown pilot performs and hope its success will pave the way for expansion to other Milwaukee neighborhoods where residents need stronger housing protections.

And a special memento from the day: RON partners received one of the signing pens! A small keepsake from an important step forward for Milwaukee. More good news and coverage of Milwaukee’s proposed Residential Rental Inspection District!

RON and our neighborhood partners are proud to support this effort to bring a more proactive approach to addressing rental housing conditions in Milwaukee neighborhoods.

Thank you to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for highlighting this important step forward.

A state law ended Milwaukee's residential rental inspection program a decade ago. The new proposal seeks to create a program within those confines.

The third one, in the St. Joseph and Uptown Crossing neighborhoods, is happening this Thursday evening, Sep. 17. An important step forward for proactive rental housing inspection in Milwaukee!

The City of Milwaukee’s Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development Committee has advanced two ordinances that would establish the city’s first Residential Rental Inspection District (RRID) in Uptown, within the Sherman Park neighborhood.

For Reclaiming Our Neighborhoods (RON), this represents an important opportunity to connect the property-level information we collect with a more proactive approach to housing code enforcement.

Our experience has shown that a complaint-driven system can leave serious housing conditions unaddressed until they become much more difficult to resolve, and put undue pressure on tenants.

The RRID pilot creates an opportunity to test a different approach in a defined area with documented need. We are particularly pleased that the pilot is taking place in Uptown, where Sherman Park Community Association has deep relationships with residents and has been doing this work on the ground for years.

We appreciate the City staff, elected officials, and community partners who helped bring this proposal forward. RON looks forward to being a partner in implementation and learning from the pilot over the coming years.

The ordinances now move to the full Common Council for consideration.
