Wisconsin's health workforce well-being initiative is gaining momentum. 💙

The Caring for Wisconsin's Caregivers Steering Committee reconvened this week to review Year 1 progress. So far, 46% of Wisconsin hospitals and health facilities have verified that their credentialing applications are free from intrusive mental health questions, benefiting more than 21,000 credentialed health workers.

The committee also looked ahead to the next phase of work, with updates on training, assessment, and organizational engagement.

Caring for Wisconsin's Caregivers is made possible through funding from the AHW Landmark Initiative on Health Workforce Well-Being, in partnership with the Wisconsin Hospital Association and the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation.

Did you catch yesterday's Coffee Conversations with Scientists? ☕

We sat down with Medical College of Wisconsin researcher Dr. Nikki Johnston to talk about something that could change how millions of people understand their reflux symptoms—and why so many aren't getting relief from their current medications.

Here's what we covered:
▪️Pepsin, not acid, may be the real driver behind chronic cough, hoarseness, and throat irritation
▪️Why standard acid-suppressing medications fail so many patients
▪️How "silent reflux" is frequently misdiagnosed as allergies
▪️A promising new treatment entering Phase 2 clinical trials right here in Milwaukee

It was great connecting with so many public health partners and professionals at the 2026 Wisconsin Public Health Association 2026 Annual Conference this week in Wisconsin Dells.

We were especially excited to see two AHW-funded projects featured in conference sessions focused on collaboration, systems change, and community health:

• Systems, Not Silos: A Public Health Strategy for Maternal Health Collaboration presented by Emily Jacobson of the Wisconsin Doulas Association

• Evolving Youth Mental Health Systems: Collaborative Strategies in Marathon County presented by Aaron Ruff and Hannah Schommer of the Marathon County Health Department

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the AHW booth and shared in the important conversations happening across Wisconsin public health. We’re grateful to support partners working to improve health and advance meaningful change in communities statewide.

In honor of Nurses Week, we're celebrating the extraordinary professionals who are the backbone of healthcare 🩺💙

Wisconsin is home to over 90,000 registered nurses, yet workforce shortages continue to strain health systems across our state.

Nurses are advocates, educators, and trusted partners in care, essential to advancing health equity for every community we serve.

Thank you to all the nurses making a difference, today and every day 🌟
