End of Watch Foundation

End of Watch Foundation One pound of weight and one mile for each officer down. Every mile in memory of an officer that carried that weight to the end.

Each weight to represent the burden that a law enforcement officer takes home with them at the end of each day.

The news that a deputy with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office had passed away suddenly on June 1st sent shockwaves throughout the northwest Florida community. The outpouring of tributes from friends, family, fellow law enforcement agencies, and Rock 99 radio station, flooding social media platforms, underscored the high regard in which Sgt. Jonathan Schlager was held. As a devoted husband, father, veteran Air Force member, and musician, Deputy Schlager's multifaceted life was marked by dedication and service. In honor of Sgt. Schlager, the End of Watch athletes organized a 6-mile ruck march, during which they were joined by a close friend who shared heartfelt stories about Jonathan's time as a deputy, Air Force veteran, and musician. Flags were flown in his honor, and messages were received from athletes who logged miles in tribute to Jonathan. Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Fort Walton Beach Police Department

This morning, our End of Watch athletes paid tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputy Bill Smith by participating in a ruck march along the Gulf of Mexico. Five years ago, Deputy Smith lost his life attempting to rescue three swimmers in distress. Our athletes, including a local Deputy from Santa Rosa County, honored Deputy Smith's memory by wearing 20lb weighted vests during the march, commemorating the 5th anniversary of his passing.

As Corrections Officer Week comes to a close and Police Week begins, we marked the occasion with an early morning ruck march with a Corrections Officer to pay respects to the fallen. During Police Week, we will make donations to five local charities that have supported our annual event and monthly honor rucks for the past eight years. Each charity will receive $2,000 to support officers in need. We thank our officers, first responders, athletes, and sponsors for their support, without which these donations would not be possible. THANK YOU!!!! The 9th Annual Event registration is now open, honoring 115 law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please find the registration link in the comments.

The Honor Ruck today was dedicated to the memory of retired Pensacola Police Lt. Adam McCoy, who tragically passed away. This Sunday marks Adam's 6th birthday in heaven. As the End of Watch athletes conducted their ruck march around Pensacola, several onlookers inquired about the thin blue flag and our activities. We took the opportunity to share the story of Lt. McCoy's selfless dedication to his community, country, and family, and how his passing has facilitated discussions about PTSD, helping to break down stigmas. Our interaction with some of Lt. McCoy's former colleagues at PPD was particularly meaningful, as they appreciated that we continue to honor Adam's memory and support his family six years later. I urge everyone who reads this to take a moment to say Lt. Adam McCoy's name and participate in a walk, run, or ruck of at least one mile in his honor this weekend.

On the 1st Heavenly Birthday of Walton County Sheriff's Deputy William May, EOWMR athletes undertook Honor miles in tribute. In the aftermath of Deputy May's line of duty death last year, we organized a ruck just a couple of days following the news. The entire Walton County Sheriff's Office academy class, nearing the end of their training, showed remarkable dedication by joining us early that Saturday. At the End of Watch Foundation, every line of duty death resonates deeply, yet the loss of Deputy May strikes particularly close due to the regular camaraderie shared between his agency and our ruck participants. The End of Watch athletes took part in the Pensacola Double Bridge run this morning, commencing with warm-up miles by rucking from the finish line to the start line. During the warm-up, officers were thanked with challenge coins and chicken biscuits. As the race began, with the thin blue line flag waving in the wind, the athletes were introduced to the fiancée of Fallen Baton Rouge Police officer Detective Terry Melanchon Jr., who shared insights into his life. Notably, Detective Terry Melanchon's family celebrated his 20th heavenly birthday in August 2025. Approaching the final quarter mile, Terry's fiancée was asked to carry the flag and lead the athletes to the finish line, making this 5K particularly emotional.

The End of Watch Foundation athletes came together this afternoon to pay homage to fallen Mobile Police Department Officer Sean Tuder with a ruck march. Today marks the seventh anniversary of Sean's passing into heaven. Two years ago, our team had the honor of participating in the Gulf Coast Silkies annual Memorial Day Ruck in Orange Beach, Alabama, alongside Sean's military colleagues. We took that opportunity to meet Sean's parents and present them with the annual 2019 flag and a customized memorial one pound weight featuring Sean's biography, photograph, and end of watch details.
