We have been released from the hospital and on our way home. Piper will still suffer from a few headaches and as he spells for the rest of the week until her ventricles go back to normal, but the good thing is the fluid is off the brain and ventricles are getting better. They went in and replaced the shunt tubing going into her heart that removes the water from the brain, it has definitely been a rough week and my copilot is out like a light.

Piper has been doing good and she’s been stable and doing a lot of sleeping… She failed the pressure tests done through a shunt tap so surgery is needed… She just went down to surgery now to do a partial replacement but won’t know until they get in there if a full replacement will be needed… We always get a picture before surgery and she’s on a roll with being very silly/goofy per her norm when she’s in a shunt malfunction… She doesn’t get lethargic she gets excessively hyper… Also included are the 3 center images of the fluid on her brain…

Hey Y’all keep Miss Piper in your prayers… She’s being flown down to Nemours Orlando… She has an obstructive kidney stone, so they’re worried about her going sepsis and also she has fluid building on the brain so her shunt is not working adequately… She’s already had the nausea with vomiting including the really bad headaches… I’ll be headed down to Orlando within the hour…

Piper just got out of surgery and straight back to her PICU room for recovery… Seems to be doing well but waiting on doctor…

So Piper’s surgery got postponed today due to an emergency with the patient in the OR ahead of her… So now she’ll be hav...

So Piper’s surgery got postponed today due to an emergency with the patient in the OR ahead of her… So now she’ll be having surgery in the morning between 11am-1pm… They will be replacing 100% everything with a brand new shunt pump and all and it will be draining into her left atrium of her heart called a VA shunt… Dr Kim Manwaring, MD will be the Neurosurgeon and Dr Nicholas Poulos, MD, FACS the General Surgeon performing her surgery tomorrow… I couldn’t ask for more informative doctors with 38yrs and 45yrs of experience… They answered all my questions and concerns about risk, infection and possible tube breakages and I’m very very confident that Piper will be in great hands the whole time… I’m more nervous than she is because it’s a new procedure for her and a lot different than the one we have grown accustomed to over the past 13 years…
We will still be here for a minimum of another week or so… Potential discharge date of 12/22 but thats not set in stone yet… Thank you so very much to those who have helped it’s been greatly appreciated…
Piper’s nurse that has been making sure her midline stays in working order gave her this blanket today because she always saw Piper eating sushi 🍣… It definitely fits her well…
