Sending a great big THANK YOU to the Charles and Betty Degenstein Foundation for their gift of $2,250 for tools and materials towards our “Repurposed with Dignity” program! These funds will help us continue to grow our furniture repair program that keeps damaged or broken items out of the landfill and into the doors of deserving homes in our region. 💛

🥁 the results are in!

We continue to bring in more and more furniture and household items from students that get redistributed to neighbors in our SUN region. 💛 We love being a part of this effort every year, and collaborating with our friends at ‘s Food Hub is the cherry on top. 🥕🍒

Our showroom is STOCKED of so many beautiful items that were diverted from the landfill, ready to be selected by future DIG shoppers. 🛒 Thank you to the thoughtfulness and consideration of Bucknell students, and to the staff that help us every year. It takes a village, and we have a great one! 🏘️

Recently, one of our regular Showroom Assistant volunteers asked if we could share more about the realities behind the needs of the clients DIG serves.

We often reference the “reason for assistance” selected by caseworkers on referral forms — but in reality, life and hardship can never be fully captured by a simple drop-down menu.

Sometimes, caseworkers include additional context about what their clients are experiencing. During this week’s volunteer team meeting, we shared some of those stories and insights, and it inspired a new series we’d like to introduce: Behind the Need.

As an organization that often meets clients just once during their shopping appointment, it can be difficult to fully communicate the “why” behind the need. Through this series, we hope to offer a deeper glimpse into the complex and often overwhelming circumstances DIG clients are navigating when they first walk through our doors.

Our hope is that these stories build greater understanding, compassion, and awareness for the importance of programs like DIG and our partner agencies. 🏡🛋💛
