Walla Walla Basin Watershed Council's Hydromania Summer Camp in June was three days of jampacked exploration of the watershed from the headwaters of Couse Creek in the Blue Mountains to the irrigation network that sustains Milton-Freewater, Oregon's agriculture based economy. A collection of lessons and field trips gave students a better understanding of local hydrology and ecology and the efforts of the WWBWC and its partners to restore degraded natural systems. A big thanks to all the funding partners that made this project possible: Milton-Freewater Unified School District #7, the C.M. Bishop Jr. Family fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, Wildhorse Foundation, Gray Family Foundation, Bonneville Power Administration, and the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board.

Another WWBWC Tour Success! Thanks to Brian Wolcott, Steve Patten, Troy Baker, and the rest of the Walla Walla Basin Watershed Council staff that helped made the tour possible! We had 27 participants from the area that took the opportunity to learn more about on the ground projects and the monitoring and scientific analysis used to guide area projects. For more information visit the depths of wwbwc.org or sign-up for our mailing list so you can participate in next year's tour.

Just wanted to thank all the volunteers that worked through the wind and the rain April 8th to accomplish a lot along the side channel of the Walla Walla river at the Lampson Levee Setback project. The Walla Walla Basin Watershed Council (WWBWC) coordinated this event for volunteers to contribute restoration activities to this Restoration Project. WWBWC Outreach Coordinator Graham Banks and Volunteer Board Member Molly Reid worked with about a dozen volunteers to plant over 300 plants and remove invasive species at the site. This event provided an opportunity for community members to see and gain a better understanding of the benefits this restoration site provides to ecological and hydrological systems and the work, accomplished an increased biodiversity, stabilization of recent disturbances, and some invasive species management at the site. The material planted was propagated from the Leidall Riparian Restoration site which is an education and restoration project at Ferndale Elementary School.
Funding for this event was provided by the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board.
