As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded of something Mutual Rescue stories show again and again: healing doesn’t always happen alone. Sometimes, it arrives with four paws, a wagging tail, and a reason to keep going. 🧡🐾

Research shows pets can play a meaningful role in our emotional well-being, and more than 1 in 5 pet owners have received recommendations from doctors to spend time with their pets.

For Michael Uy, that connection was life-changing.

After losing everything, Mike was spiraling into depression. Then one unexpected shelter visit led him to Abbie, a traumatized rescue puppy found on a busy highway. Together, they found healing, purpose, and even the joy of surfing side by side.

💬 “I would never have known my full potential if I hadn’t helped a shelter dog find hers first.” — Michael Uy

As May comes to a close, we’re celebrating the powerful reminder that rescue can go both ways.

Army Veteran Samantha Brinegar was discharged as 100% disabled when she began experiencing severe symptoms of PTSD. Life after service left her feeling lonely and lost, but a fated encounter with a horse changed the course of her recovery. Today we honor the experiences of all our veterans, and celebrate how the bond between human and animal can be healing.

This clip is taken from our short film Learning to Trust Again - the story of Samantha and her horse Joey. Link in bio to watch all of our films on YouTube.

Keep the clever posts coming! We love to see it. (BTW - support your local shelter) 🎃🧡
