Help us track migrating phalaropes this summer! We're looking for experienced birders to conduct biweekly surveys across South San Francisco Bay (and scout for phalaropes in the North Bay) to help inform conservation efforts for these remarkable shorebirds, which have declined dramatically in the region.

Surveys take place every other Tuesday from late June through September, and volunteers do not need to attend every survey. If you're comfortable identifying Wilson's and Red-necked Phalaropes and counting large flocks, we'd love to hear from you. Apply at tr.ee/2s-UwFtBJu

You don't have to make a large gift to have an impact.

That's the idea behind our $5 for Birds Challenge: invite a few friends to make a small donation, and together those gifts can go a long way to support bird conservation, habitat restoration, environmental education, and community science across the Bay Area.

Plus, first-time donor gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000!

➡️ Donate: tr.ee/pqHGlOElZz
➡️ Referred a donor? Send us a DM so we can keep track for the challenge. Remember, top recruiter wins an SFBBO t-shirt!

Have you been enjoying our Birdy Hour science talks, or missed one you wanted to catch? Not to worry– we record and post all previous talks to our Youtube channel! Today, we’re highlighting past years of Birdy Hour talks from the month of June, including Jon Dunn’s 2022 presentation on shorebird identification, and Joanna Wu’s 2023 presentation on the historical biases behind female birds being less studied than males.

Learning in the field can spark a lifelong connection to birds, science, and conservation. Through partnerships with schools, universities, and community groups, SFBBO brings students outdoors to restore habitat, learn about avian science, and experience environmental stewardship firsthand.

To support the next generation of conservationists, donate to our Spring Appeal at tr.ee/pqHGlOElZz. Right now, first-time donor gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, so please consider sending a first gift today, no matter how small!

Interested in partnering with us for a community outreach event, or bringing a volunteer group to an SFBBO habitat restoration workday? Reach out to us at [email protected] — we’d love to connect.
