SERVING THE MOST VULNERABLE

At any given time, there are about 1,000 children in the Santa Clara County foster care system. Every one of these children has experienced trauma in the form of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Every one of these children should have the opportunity to overcome the effects of trauma and thrive. We serve foster children in Silicon Valley by:

*operating the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program in Santa Clara County;
*influencing local policies and decisions that affect the children we serve;
*building enduring community partnerships to broaden and strengthen our impact. ADVOCATES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We recruit, train and support CASA Volunteers to ensure every foster child in the Santa Clara County foster care system has a mentor and advocate to help them navigate the system and a voice reporting directly to the Court. Studies show foster children with a CASA Volunteer receive more educational and health services; are more likely to find a safe, permanent home; perform better in school; and spend less time in foster care that children without one. BECOME AN ADVOCATE

Help change the life trajectory of a foster child by becoming an Advocate Donor or an Advocate Volunteer.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, we celebrated the various traditions of Latin America with our event Fiesta Mi Gente: A Celebration of Cultura! Through this event, our youth explored art, dance and food from Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Peru and many other countries.

With over 65 percent of our foster youth identifying as Hispanic, events like this play a vital role in supporting their connection to their heritage!

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer Rebekah had always known she wanted to make a difference for a child in foster care. What she didn’t know was just how much joy she’d find in getting to know Timothy and Charlie, two energetic brothers, ages five and six. Now, she is glad that she took the step to help advocate for foster youth in Silicon Valley.

“I’m glad I did it. I just loved the idea of being able to support and advocate for a child in need.”

You can help us recruit dedicated CASA Volunteers like Rebekah by choosing to SHOW UP for foster youth with a donation to Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.

🎉 Three more bills supporting youth in foster care and juvenile justice have been signed into California law!

AB 1659, authored by Rhodesia Ransom for State Assembly, improves educational continuity for justice-involved youth. AB 1996, authored by Assemblymember Mia Bonta, establishes a new council charged with developing and evaluating policies that reduce child poverty. AB 2764, authored by Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens, ensures that non-minor dependents up to age 21 are not denied or terminated benefits for failing to meet excessive local criteria.

Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom for supporting this important legislation. Today we celebrate these three steps forward for youth in foster care and juvenile justice across the state.

Over sixty-five percent of foster youth in Santa Clara County identify as Hispanic, and many of them are waiting to be connected with a mentor—a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer—who understands their identities, culture and lived experiences. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we're resharing this important message from Councilmember Pamela Campos with you as a reminder that YOU can make a difference for a foster youth in need of support.

"I was more than someone that they could trust, I was someone that they could relate to." —Councilmember Pamela Campos

For brothers Timothy and Charlie, having someone they can lean on as they enter into the back-to-school season makes all the difference. For many kids, back to school means new routines, classrooms, and friendships. And for children in foster care, those transitions can be even more challenging.

Thankfully, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer Rebekah is there for Timothy and Charlie by being by their side, helping to champion their education, well-being and future.

“You feel that responsibility of wanting to do your best and really not let the kids down, but I think just showing up, being there, and spending time with them has made a big impact.”

🎒💛📚 This school year, you can help connect more children like Timothy and Charlie with a CASA Volunteer who will advocate for their education, celebrate their progress and help them build a brighter future.

On Saturday, September 12, Child Advocates of Silicon Valley welcomed 29 CASA Volunteers to the 2026 THRIVE Summit — a morning dedicated to connection, reflection, creativity, and practical learning focused on supporting teens and Non-Minor Dependents.

Throughout the Thrive Summit, CASAs explored how their presence and approach can influence a young person’s growth. Through guided reflection exercises, volunteers considered when to walk beside a young person, when to step in with support, and when to step back so the young person can build confidence and independence.

We are grateful to the 29 CASA Volunteers who brought their energy, openness, and commitment to the Thrive Summit. Their willingness to reflect, learn, create, and grow strengthens the support they provide to teens and Non-Minor Dependents throughout our community. Progress happens brick by brick—and our CASAs are there for every step. 🩷

In August, the Dependency Wellness Court hosted their annual summer picnic to celebrate the success of current and former court impacted families on their sobriety journey. The families enjoyed a BBQ lunch and the children were provided with toys, sporting equipment, backpacks and more. They also enjoyed canvas painting, bracelet making and were entertained by a clown specializing in balloon animals! 🧺 ☀️ 🎨
