Augusta – The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has identified the firefighter killed in the line of duty in yesterday’s Searsmont explosion as 27-year-old Morrill Firefighter Andrew Cross. State Fire Marshal Shawn Esler said, “Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers are with the firefighter’s family, loved ones, and colleagues during this devastating time.

The Maine State Police will assist with the honorable transfer this morning from the Medical Examiner’s Office at 34 Hospital Street. The procession will travel along Route 3 to Risposta’s Funeral Home in Belfast. Further information on funeral arrangements and memorial services will be shared as details become available.

Update about the searsmount fire, today on 5/15/26 we lost one of our own, I hate to make this post as a first responder...

Update about the searsmount fire, today on 5/15/26 we lost one of our own, I hate to make this post as a first responder myself. I can’t imagine the damage this has done to the family let alone the community in general, I offer my deepest condolences out there for the family and friends of the lost one.

For anyone that has family or friends down there & you need help, I am here & so are others, you are not alone.

I will post more when stuff become available

Dispatch advises that the road is now fully open, with both lanes open to normal traffic.
