We are thrilled to announce that Amber Orseno has joined the coaching squad for Millvale 15U this spring. Amber played ball in high school (under the leadership of Coach Jack!) and played club ball while she attended Pitt. We sat down to ask Amber a bit more about herself, so please get to know Coach Amber and welcome her to our community:

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given, and by who?
From my mom, “When you’re trying to make a tough decision, think about each choice as though you’ve already decided. Pay attention to how each choice makes you feel. Which one makes you happier? Go with that one!” It is truly advice to live by.
What is one piece of advice you want every young softball player to know?
Just believe in yourself. Visualize yourself throwing that strike, laying down the perfect bunt, stealing that base… and then really believe that you can! Your mind is powerful.
What three adjectives best describe you?
enthusiastic, optimistic, outgoing
Do you have any hidden talents and, if so, what?
Helping people de-clutter. I think I’m good at it and I really enjoy it!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love trying new things and seeing new places.
Who is your favorite softball player of all time?
Jennie Finch was playing on the US National Team while I was playing high school ball so I guess I’d have to say she’s always been my favorite.
If you could have any job you want, what would it be?
Teacher and Coach – I’m a lucky girl
What is your favorite softball memory?
Playoff game, my senior year. We were in extra innings – no score. We were the home team and I had a teammate in scoring position. I was up. I hit the ball right over the first baseman’s head. It dropped right in front of the right fielder. My teammate scored and our whole team ran out to me and lifted me up. I had never been the hero of a game before.
Why did you decide to Coach for Millvale Athletic Association?
I have been wanting to coach for a few years now. This winter I decided that if not now, when? I played for Coach Jack all through high school and Millvale’s field was our home field. So, Millvale seemed like the perfect place!
Name one goal you have for yourself as a coach this softball season?
Honestly, being that this is my first year of coaching, I just hope to learn the ropes. I know I have the potential to be a great coach but I have to start by learning from the people who are more experienced than I am.
Who would win in a fight, pirates or ninjas, and why?
Ninjas – for sure. Mostly because of their stealth and agility. Whereas when I think of pirates, I think of greedy men on a ship.
Welcome to the team, Amper Sand!!
