PLEASE STAY OFF THE ICE

We know many of us grew up taking risks, and we understand it can sometimes feel like being overly cautious. This message isn’t about restricting fun — it’s about preventing tragedy.

Please do not go out on the river or frozen waterways.

While our first responders are highly trained and committed to rapid, professional emergency response, the reality is that a rescue from icy water is extremely unlikely. Reaching someone who has fallen through the ice within three minutes is not realistic.

Cold Water Facts:
• Cold water shock can occur in seconds
• Loss of muscle control can happen in 1–2 minutes
• Ice thickness varies and may appear safe when it is not

Once someone falls through the ice, the outcome is often determined before help can arrive. The best rescue is prevention.
