Tidings of Truth 🔆
There have been too many accounts when we hear some kind of story about someone associating themselves with the wrong crowd, leading them astray / or witnessing someone have that one friend that was “not good” creating an adverse impact on their life.
At times it’s believed that 1. We’re stronger than what they do, how they act, etc., so it won’t impact us.
But 𝟏 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟏𝟓:𝟑𝟑 states: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” This is wisdom to take heed with great concern when choosing our friends. We must be wise in whom we associate ourselves with (this goes with dating as well).
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟏𝟐:𝟐𝟔 The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟏𝟑:𝟐𝟎 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
The theme right now is friendship, and as I was reading Haggi 2 and got to verse 13. I had to circle back, because this specific verse the Holy Spirit highlighted to me on why our associations with people matter.
“Then Haggai asked, “If someone becomes ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person and then touches any of these foods, will the food be defiled?” And the priests answered, “Yes.” Then Haggi responded, “That is how it is with the people and this nation, says the Lord. Everything they do and everything they offer is defiled by their sin.”
Sometimes we assume or determine if we are living in the way of Christ in purity, that we can also influence those qualities off them. Yes, it is possible, but in reality, it’s not always the case.
If we aren’t strong enough or early in our years of following the Lord, there is a better chance of them influencing us for the bad.
Therefore, it’s critical if you’re associating or in relation with those living with certain sins, lifestyles, and addictions, you remove negative influences from your life.
I remember there was a time when I first started my walk with Christ, and there was a point where I became friendless. Things with my girl gang went left, and ultimately I was left alone.
