Through generous community contributions and collaboration, we work to provide scholarship funding to ensure that Freeflow Institute programs are accessible and possible for all people. “Even many weeks after the trip, I find myself reflecting on the moments of clarity I stumbled upon out there - the moments when the background noise of everyday life fell away and I could look at my writing and my life with a placid mind. I have a feeling I will be drawing from this trip in my writing for many, many years.”

Robin joined us on Freeflow Institute’s April 2023 field course, The Desert Eye. Led by Craig Childs, this journey delved into the high desert of Southwestern Colorado, focusing on witnessing, writing and a deep immersion in the landscape.

Robin received support from our Community Scholarship Fund, which aims to increase access to Freeflow courses. This fund allows us to provide holistic support to individuals like Robin, to experience creative outdoor learning in wild places. By supporting Freeflow Institute participants in this way, we aspire to elevate the voices of the next generation of creative conservation leaders.

As a collaboration between , , and , we're offering an immersive opportunity for an emerging content creator—whether you're a writer, photographer, filmmaker, or any other type of storyteller.

This award includes a $2,000 tuition scholarship, a $500 gear stipend, and professional mentorship under NRS’s Director of Content & Media. The NRS Scholarship can be applied to any water-based Freeflow course in 2024.

Freeflow's Connect to the Cold Challenge has officially ended, and we're taking a moment to reflect on how our community came together throughout the month of February.

Our intention with this challenge was to nurture creativity, cultivate connections in the embrace of the cold, and raise funds for our Community Scholarship Fund. We aimed to grow our Freeflow community while encouraging creative expression during the cold season.

Today marks the FINAL WEEK of the Connect to the Cold Challenge. Thank you to everyone who has joined us this month in soaking up the sparkly magic of winter and helping us raise money for The Freeflow Foundation’s Community Scholarship Fund. Here’s your Week Four Challenge:

WEEK FOUR | Capture it with words or art.

Good art and good writing often comes from direct experience: physical, visceral moents int he world in which your senses are firing. In real time, you notice things. You perceive what’s beyond the obvious, what’s between the lines, what lies just past the tip of your nose of the reach of your fingers. You’re an observer and a participants. You are curious, receptive and open. This week, approach your cold-weather or cold-water adventure with the curious receptivity of the artist you are. Soak it up with your senses. And then, sometime later, creative something that captures the experience in a compelling way. A poem? An illustration? A video? An essay or reflection? Whatever feels right. Then, bravely, share it (and don’t forget to tag us).
