What an incredible morning. 💙

We had such an amazing turnout for the 7th Annual Grey Branson Baker Memorial Beach Cleanup with the Surfrider Foundation Delaware Chapter and the Baker family—and it truly could not have been a more perfect day.

☀️ Blue skies
🌊 Beautiful coastline
💪 A community that shows up

Together, we removed 70 lbs of trash (plus multiple piles of wood!) from the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park—and every single piece makes a difference.

More than anything, it was a meaningful way to come together, give back, and honor Grey’s memory in a way that really matters.

So grateful for everyone who showed up, pitched in, and helped keep our beaches clean and protected. 💙🌊

🚨 Emergency Shellfish Harvesting Ban Issued for Indian River Bay 🚨

An emergency closure has been issued for shellfish harvesting in Indian River Bay due to poor water quality conditions. This means clams, oysters, and other shellfish are temporarily unsafe to harvest — a serious reminder that clean water isn’t optional, it’s essential.

Shellfish are natural water filters. When pollution, runoff, or bacteria levels rise, they absorb those contaminants — putting both marine life and public health at risk.

🌊 Why this matters:
• Closures impact local ecosystems
• They affect recreational and commercial harvesting
• They signal ongoing water quality challenges in our coastal waters

💙 What you can do to help:
✅ Reduce runoff: limit lawn chemicals and fertilizer
✅ Pick up pet waste and trash before it reaches storm drains
✅ Support Ocean Friendly Gardens and native landscaping
✅ Volunteer with Surfrider’s clean water and advocacy programs

Protecting clean water protects our bays, our wildlife, and our communities. This is exactly why Surfrider works year-round to defend clean water across Delaware.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued an emergency closure of Indian River Bay to the harvest of shellfish after an ongoing sewage release connected to

BREAKING NEWS 📣 Today, we received devastating news that the Trump administration is officially pursuing an unprecedented and dangerous new offshore drilling plan that will open vast stretches of U.S. coastlines up to new offshore oil and gas drilling. If you’ve never signed a Surfrider action alert before, NOW IS THE TIME‼️

If this lease sale plan moves forward, it could lock in decades of new drilling off California, the Gulf of Mexico, including the previously protected waters off of Florida, and Alaska, including the pristine High Arctic, where drilling has never been attempted before because of the hazards. This will threaten beaches, surf spots, and coastal ecosystems across the country, and jeopardize the coastal tourism and recreation industries that sustain local communities and power regional economies.

has stopped offshore oil drilling expansion before. We won because thousands of Friends of the Ocean, like YOU, spoke up and took a stand. 💪

🖊️ Visit the link in bio to add your voice now. It takes only seconds, and will be crucial in building a groundswell of opposition that our elected leaders cannot ignore! 👏

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Take Action on SB 130 NOW! 🚨

Expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) — the stuff used in takeout containers, foam cups, packing peanuts, and disposable coolers — is one of the worst offenders when it comes to plastic pollution. It breaks into tiny pieces, litters our beaches, harms wildlife, and never truly goes away.

💥 Senate Bill 130 (SB 130) would finally ban the retail sale of EPS foam products in Delaware, expanding last year’s SB 51 that restricted their use in restaurants and cafeterias. This new bill would stop retail stores and wholesalers from selling these single-use foam items entirely — keeping them out of our waterways and landfills.

SB 130 has already passed the Senate and House Committee — now it just needs a House vote!

📢 Here’s how you can help right now:
✅ Contact your State Representative and urge them to VOTE YES on SB 130
✅ Share this post to spread awareness
✅ Say NO to foam — and YES to reusable, sustainable alternatives

This legislation will bring Delaware in line with neighboring states like MD, NJ, and others already protecting their coasts from foam pollution. Let’s make Delaware next. 🌊♻️

We’re endlessly grateful for each of you who shows up, speaks up, and protects what you love. 🌎

Here’s to YOU — our wave makers, ocean defenders, and coastal champions. 🌊💙

With the Delaware legislative session starting in January, we have a great opportunity to reduce plastic pollution in Delaware by passing a statewide “Skip the Stuff” bill (HB111).

Take a few minutes and ask your elected officials to change the expectations of restaurant takeout and delivery food customers. Instead of expecting to receive extra items like utensils and condiments, under Skip the Stuff, customers will expect to not receive those items unless they specifically request them.

In addition to protecting our ocean and human health against plastic pollution, this bill will save restaurants money, as nationally, restaurants spend about $20 billion per year on such items.

Join us and ask your elected official to support this bill!
