What words can we use to adequately honor every last person who made this year’s Pug Social such a success?! 1100 people nearly 500 pugs and $16,370 in net proceeds! You all showed up and showed out for the pugs and the numbers confirm, this was one of the most successful Socials to date! Without your support we simply cannot do what we do and say yes to pugs like Pixie and Welly. So from the bottom’s of our tired hearts, THANK YOU!💞We are already thinking of ways to make next year even better!

MEDICAL HOLD | Pixie
7 weeks old | Female
Pixie is a tiny ball of love with springs in her feet who came to us when the family who saved er from a man selling puppies in the park surrendered her to us so that she could get the care she needs. Pixie has severe glaucoma in her right eye and has been seen by our Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialist who recommends her eye be removed as soon as she is strong enough to undergo the procedure. No sooner than 12 weeks of age. In the meantime, she is getting eye drops 4 times a day and bringing unabashed joy into her foster home. We are grateful for the support of our followers who have already made donations to help supplement the cost of Pixie's care. We will not be accepting applications on Pixie until she is healthy and recovering.

MEDICAL HOLD | Welly
15 years old | Female
Welly came to us through the veterinarian who cared for her when her 89-year-old owner and their caregiver could not manage her care. Almost on cue in an act of serendipity, one of our very special fosters with a tender heart for seniors had just reached out the day before wondering if we had any special senior who needed fostering. Our foster works with Andover Veterinary Hospital and the good folks there examined Welly as soon as she came in. Welly has a laundry list of health issues including multiple infections, an eye ulceration, arthritis and a facial nerve issue. All we know is that Welly could not be in better hands. Here she is receiving some acupuncture to help with her arthritis, and her other concerns are also being addressed. There is a strong possibility that Welly will remain in the rescue in our Care program, but that remains to be determined. No matter what, we will keep you all informed of her journey. We are so grateful to all of Welly's heroes and for the love being poured into this sweet soul.

Introducing Pixie! Before you run to complete an application, Pixie has some hills to climb before she’ll be ready for adoption.
Let’s start with her origin story. Pixie’s true hero is the young woman who saw her, along with additional pug puppies being sold out of a cardboard box in a New York City park. She approached the man who was charging $600 per puppy and saw Pixie who was significantly smaller than the other puppies. She asked about the little one and after some convincing, he agreed to let her have the puppy for $50.
Once home and on closer examination, it was observed that Pixie’s right eye was in need of attention and her belly was distended. Turned down by Care Credit, Pixie’s rescuers did what was best for her and reached out to rescue. After bottle feeding her for over a week, they brought her 3 hours towards Massachusetts to meet up with her foster mom and bid farewell to the less than 5 week old puppy they had lovingly tended to.
We were able to get a quick appointment at Veterinary Eye Center- Massachusetts and our own vets to get her started on the road to the life she deserves. At just 1.3 lbs on intake Pixie is a powerhouse! Obviously she is winning over every last person she encounters with her sassy energy and ridiculously adorable “bark”. Sadly, Pixie’s eye cannot be saved. She suffers with acute glaucoma and is blind in that eye. While she is not exhibiting any signs of pain, the condition is equated to what a severe migraine feels like in a human. Pixie needs to grow and gain weight before she is strong enough for surgery. She will need to weigh at least 5-6 lbs, probably at 12 weeks before having the eye removed. In the meantime she is getting drops 4 times a day to reduce pain and pressure while firmly wrapping her foster mom and dad around her tiny little paw. The estimate for the surgery is close to $4k before our rescue discount, so we are planning some dedicated fundraising for her. In the meantime, if you would like to contribute to her care, there are many way to do that. We will share Pixie’s journey with you all and thank you for always supporting our mission for dogs like Pixie🥰💞💕💖

We are working on tallying the total amount of funds raised at this year's Pugtoberfest Pug Social and will share when we have the numbers. Thank every last person who helped make the day one of our best yet! Pugs just make life better.
