DIABETES AWARENESS
A focus of the Millington Lions Club is diabetes awareness. At the club's regular meeting March 11, President Patty Ervin and others offered information to club members and the public about the dangers of the disease and members enjoyed a game of diabetes bingo to learn about it. Some facts: Approximately 595,000 adults in Maryland have diabetes and each year an additional 44,000 are diagnosed. Nationally, diabetes contributes to the death of nearly 400,000 people. LIONS LEAD COMMUNITY EFFORT TO PROVIDE MEALS TO THE NEEDY.
Lions clubs from throughout the county participated in the annual Christmas Basket Program, to provide holiday food and Christmas toys for local needy families. The effort came together Monday, Dec. 15 with the packaging and distribution of some 887 boxes of food and bags of toys destined for needy households. Volunteers from the Millington, Galena, Chestertown, Betterton-Still Pond and Rock Hall clubs participated along with volunteers from Kent County High School, Kent County 4-H Club, Washington College Athletic Department, and Kent County Social Services, among others, meeting at the Kent County Community Center to pack food boxes and toys after Dixon Valve dropped off a truckload of empty boxes to fill. Local elementary schools helped collect canned goods for the effort. Additional material and funding were provided by donations, including some well appreciated high-ticket gifts. The Christmas bounty was loaded on trailers and distributed later in the day.

'TIS THE SEASON FOR A CHRISTMAS TREE IN MILLINGTON
A Christmas tree adorns Millington’s four corners, courtesy of the Lions Club. The 12-foot Douglas fir tree, donated by Bernard Kohl, was erected on the corner Cypress and Sassafras streets a couple of weeks ago. Saturday, club members added the final touches with a variety of ornaments. It’s the Lions Club way of saying Merry Christmas to the community!

LIONS, GOBLINS AND GHOULS OH MY!
CLUB HALLOWEEN NIGHT A HIT IN MILLINGTON
The Millington Lions Club sponsored a Halloween Night event, Friday, and there were plenty of costumed kids and adults and even a couple of pet dogs enjoying the fun and making the evening a rousing success. The event was held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Millington Community Fire Company fire hall on Sassafras Street. A strong wind didn't keep the kids from taking advantage of plenty of candy, glow sticks and bottled water to go around, handed out by Lions Club members, volunteers and fire company personnel.
Dressed up in an inflatable mascot lion costume, club member Kenneth Ervin entertained the crowds of kids and adults that visited the Halloween street party. Dozens of youngsters and adults came by in costume. A good time was had by all!
